Mahaut police investigate fatal collision at Les Pointe

The Mahaut Police are currently investigating a fatal vehicular road traffic collision that occurred at Les Pointe.

On Tuesday, August 6, 2024, around 6:45 a.m., Wayne Bertrand, a 43-year-old male from Pottersville, was driving his Honda Fit car in a northerly direction. Meanwhile, Fred John, an adult male from Salisbury residing in Warner, was driving a Toyota Hilux pickup in a southerly direction along the E.O. Leblanc Highway at Les Pointe, with a passenger. The collision involved both motor vehicles.

According to Police Inspector Fixton Henderson, both vehicles sustained extensive damage to their right front sides. He said the driver and passenger of the pickup were mostly unharmed but were transported to the Dominica-China Friendship Hospital for medical attention.

He added that Wayne Bertrand, the driver of the car, sustained multiple injuries and was pronounced dead that same morning by a medical doctor at the Emergency Department of the Dominica-China Friendship Hospital.

Henderson extended condolences to the family and friends of the deceased Wayne Bertrand on behalf of the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force.
