Marigot Rep urges parliament to put politics aside towards common interest

Parliamentary Representative for the Marigot Constituency Anthony Charles, who pledged his support towards an over $69 million loan from the International Development Association (IDA) earlier this week, told parliament to set party politics aside and  “think about the country.”

The money will be used to relocate some residents of Campbell, Good Hope, San Sauveur, and Petite Soufrière.

“Not because I am not supporting the Labour Party I cannot support a loan that’s going to move the country. Because it is not about party…I am not representing any party, I am representing the people and it is the people’s interest I come and represent here,” he said.

Charles continued, “ We need to put party politics aside and think about the country,” he urged. “It have time for politics, everybody plays their politics, but we need to pause for a while. Give it a break and let’s move our country please.”

He expressed his interest in working with the government to take Dominica to the next level.

“I want to take the country to the next level to work with the government to move this country a way forward,” he said.

“It is simple. We have bills to pay, IDA giving us a loan, we qualify, we take it to pay our bills,” Charles stated.

Meanwhile, his advice to businessmen and young entrepreneurs was to be careful with retired people that he characterized as stuck in their old ways.

“You have to stand your ground and vote for what is right. It is a simple thing,” Charles advised.

Young man STOP. did he consider the monies that were donated and houses that were donated after the hurricane? dis he ask why are the people being relocated now? were they on that climate résilience list of people that need to be relocated and why were not given priority for donated houses.

I expect him to ask these questions and not just fold. He should be out there asking for them to return the gifts they got from foreign governments. President Savarin and his wife. Prime Minister and his wife and their foreign ministers for twenty years these people are receiving items chains rings vases etc and keeping it at their homes. This is stealing state property. The country could have easily have 100 million in gifts.
you all are out there giving the IS ambassador gift bag so you know how it is done this means that you all got things from foreign governments. RETURN IT to the state.

Yes I Ras Tony, I see you are now advocating for what benefits you and not the very same people you claim to be representing. You now believe that the very same “Retired” people you begged for their votes are now deemed as being stuck in their ways and essentially non-relevant. Oh what a tangled web we weave, when you the so called politicians first practice to deceive.

Be warned, the retired folks will be waiting to hug and kiss you next election when you come begging for their votes  . All pig have their Saturday bro! Like the Calypso says; “The ground that we walking on one day will be your roof”. Think of your legacy Ras!

Here is where you lose me Charles, the other side, the Labour party Government, is cheating and stealing. Are you certain that the money will be used as intended? Have you ever called for accountability and transparency of all Government revenue, in Dominica treasury and overseas?
You see Charles, right now you sound like a referee or umpire who knows that one side is cheating and stealing to win the game, but you have decided to support their actions, and to add insult to injury you are saying to the other team, just play fair for the good of the game. I know that they are cheating and stealing but I will be a fair referee. Does that make sense Charles? Your lecture would have been honorable if the Labour party Government was honest, accountable and transparent, but you and I and all Dominicans know that they are not. So Charles what is your point? Help Skerrit and Melissa to build another Mansion?
