Local media personality, Shermaine Green-Brown has passed away.
Green-Brown’s signature voice was easily recognizable on the airwaves due to her years of working at state-owned DBS Radio.
Over her long and distinguished career, she held several positions at the station including acting General Manager and Program Director.
Her son, Kyle Anthony Brown told DBS Radio that his mother died suddenly at a hospital in Miami on Thursday.
“It was sudden for my family and sudden for me as well and it will be sudden for the people of Dominica,” he said.
He said that Dominicans will remember his mother because her voice was always heard on DBS.
“I think she will always be remembered for her contribution to the radio station and the Dominican people,” he stated.
Meanwhile Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, described Green-Brown as a “great Dominican” who was one of the “known media voices” on the island.
“A very pleasant voice to listen to, very articulate,” he said on DBS on Friday morning. “I’m very sad to hear of her death. I know her personally, I know her husband very well and Shermaine Green was one of the great Dominicans, a very patriotic Dominican who gave all of her life service to Dominica and Dominicans.”
He said death is never welcomed and he does not welcome the death of the Green-Brown but she should be remembered for her contribution to media in Dominica.
“I think you cannot speak about media, you cannot speak about communication, you cannot speak about broadcasting and certainly, certainly, you cannot speak about DBS Radio without speaking about Shermaine Green,” the Prime Minister remarked. “Shermaine Green was DBS and DBS was Shermaine Green. I think the media fraternity, Dominica as a whole has lost a wonderful daughter of the soil.”
Well Skerrit will give her a big funeral with a good Skerrit Trade mark happy hour. I bet he will bring the body to Dominica to ensure he gets lots of praise followed by a big funeral. Condolences to her family and friends
I remember her voice radiating from the various radios walking in Roseau on lunch hour from St. Martin School. Me and my good friend Jackie always adored her voice. Jackie did follow in her footsteps. May her soul rest in peace, condolences to her family and friends.
I want to dedicate a moment to honour the memory of Mrs Shermaine Green-Brown, a beloved broadcaster, journalist, and media icon from The Commonwealth of Dominica 🇩🇲.Her presence on DBS radio has impacted so many, including me, by teaching the value of professional reading and proper word pronunciation. Her passing is a great loss, and she will be deeply missed. May she rest in peace, and may her legacy continue to inspire many. 💔🕊️🇩🇲 @dbsradio @dominicanewsonline @emonews_da
