Meet Teni Pascal: Dominican plus-sized model breaking stereotypes in the UK

Model Teni Pascal on set

Teni Pascal, a 38-year-old influencer hailing from Laplaine, Dominica, has carved out a significant niche for herself in the fashion realm, particularly within the plus-size sector. After relocating to London at the age of 18, Teni has embraced her passion for fashion and now utilizes her social media presence to uplift women, especially those who are plus-sized. Through her engaging content, she promotes self-confidence and encourages individuals to express themselves through their personal style.

Her impressive career trajectory has led her to collaborate with several prominent brands, including Adidas, Fabletics, Boohoo, Shein, Next, The Curve Catwalk, Cider, Bravissimo, Mapiful, Monsoon, Snag Tights, and Refinery29 UK. Recently, Teni was approached by one of the UK’s leading plus-size brands to participate in two national advertising campaigns centered around swimwear and denim.

“This is a big deal for me”, she said to DNO, adding “I am a very ambitious person who tries my hardest to make my dreams come true, and with hard work, they are slowly becoming my reality.”

These latest campaigns have received widespread acclaim from the plus-size community, further solidifying her influence in the industry.

Teni’s passion for fashion is matched by her sense of wonder regarding her accomplishments. She often reflects on her journey with a mix of gratitude and disbelief, expressing sentiments like, “I don’t feel like I’m working; I always have a ‘pinch me’ moment—like, is this really happening to me? I’m just a girl from Dominica!”

Despite her success, she remains deeply connected to her roots, proudly declaring, “I AM A DOMINICAN WOMAN, and that’s why I have the sauce, the drive to keep going.”

Dedicated to advocating for plus-size, dark-skinned women who frequently face neglect in the fashion industry, Teni’s confidence and boldness are driven by her mission to illuminate the paths of others.

“We are called the outsiders because all the other clothing brands would not cater fashionable clothing for plussize…in the UK.  One specific brand selected a group of content creators and called them ‘Insiders’. However, they did not represent any plussize content creators, this is why Yours Clothing created this space for us,” she stated, referring to the life-changing opportunity.

Teni continues to emphasize the importance of representation, stating, “Not here, hunnie; I want to show others that the light can shine on them too.” Through her work, the model aims to inspire a new generation of women to embrace their beauty and claim their rightful place in the fashion world.

So why the government have all this stuff about NCDs when we have people promoting obesity, one of the leading causal factors of some of the most common NCDs?

50 years ago, when I began the paintings and sculptures in my series “Daughters of the Caribbean Sun”, I had no difficulty finding lithe models. They worked in the fields and bathed in the rivers. I now search in vain.

Plus sized only means our women eat too much processed store-bought and other packaged foods. They have given up to the processed foods boss.
There is great need for vegetables, herbs all at the markets, vegetables easy to steam, cook, salad, add garlic n onions or whatever. Don’t just give in to the processed-food boss who are only interested in your women buying their packages to get bloated. Even out little girls are aspiring to be big n fat.
Among other things, soon our mini bus drivers who fit 10 passengers will only be able to fit 8 women, operating at a loss. This is costly, and women have to step up, free up the health services, CNDCs etc.
If I’m the only one saying this, I’m the 800 lb gorilla, tired. 8-O

I agree. “keep opening doors for us”??? By the amount they eat, they won’t be able to fit through any doors

I hate this “plus-size” “body positivity” fatties keep talking about these days. No matter how they try to paint it, there’s nothing nice or cool about being a fatty. It doesn’t look pleasing to the eye, and let’s not forget all the health problems it causes. Promoting being a fatty is just promoting death.

Promote being slim, exercise & healthy eating, not being fat.
