Mehul Choksi’s legal battle: Alleges kidnapping orchestrated by Indian Intelligence

Choksi wheeled into court in Dominica in 2021

Dominica became the focal point of a dramatic legal battle involving fugitive diamond merchant Mehul Choksi, who is suing the Indian government and five others in the High Court in London.

Choksi alleges that he was a victim of a “kidnapping” orchestrated by Indian intelligence operatives, who purportedly lured him from Antigua in 2021 through a honeytrap scheme.

In a preliminary hearing, Choksi claimed that five individuals affiliated with India’s Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW) abducted him from Antigua and illegally transported him by yacht to Dominica.

This alleged operation was reportedly masterminded by the Indian state to facilitate his extradition back to India, where he faces accusations linked to a two-billion-dollar Punjab National Bank scam.

Choksi was in fact in prison in Dominica where he was charged with illegal entry. He was later released and all charges were dropped against him

Currently imprisoned in Belgium, Choksi is contesting extradition efforts initiated by India.

His connection with Barbara Jarabik, a luxury goods consultant from Hungary, commenced in August 2020 in Antigua.

By May 2021, Choksi alleges that she invited him to an apartment she had rented in Jolly Harbour, where he was confronted by a group of men of Indian descent who claimed they had come to detain him for interrogation by Indian authorities.

According to court reports, these men identified themselves as R&AW operatives, assaulted him, and left him unconscious before binding him to a wheelchair for transport to Dominica, allegedly with the intention of coercing a false confession from him that would implicate the Congress party.

His attorney, Edward Fitzgerald KC, asserted in court that the evidence strongly suggests the Indian government was behind the events, citing their motive and means

Who gives a rat’s behind about an alleged crook from half way around the world? I thought this story had evaporated and gone the way of the Dominican parrots.

Let india worry about their fugutives. The Indians are good for themselves and know how to take care of their domestic and international affairs.

It would be infinitely more productive if our Dominican government and citizens focus on how they can model India’s dominance in the IT industry where they have cornered the international market on Technology jobs.

True to form, it appears that some messy Dominicans have found their way in other people commess as usual. At the end of the day, what value will the Mehul Choksi story add to the lives of average Dominicans???

Antigua had India’s most wanted crook, Choski, while Dominica had Iran’s most want crook and spy, Government Agent and businessman, Monfared. Dominica Government CBI Co-ordinator, Emmanuel Nanton, even had Monfared vehicle and seemed to have been personally responsible for hiding him, trying to dash him to the Dominican Republic to confuse INTERPOL! They were all in Macau celebrating My Dominica Trade House! And this is where this CBI mismanagement and corruption has brough the poorest members of CARICOM – shame! Shame on all of us for tolerating this! Shame on Dominica Labour party!

Ali Reza Zibahalat Monfared, was at Morne Daniel?
Do you know the GANG OF THIEVES who used to call him ‘DATO’?
Do you know he, Zibahalat, channelled dirty money to a filling station up north?
Do you know with dirty money, he paid air fare for some corrupt people to travel from Malaysia to China?
Do you know who had the vehicle he was using to travel around, after he left Dominica?
Deadline for my homework is Monday morning, at exactly “eleven minutes pass eight”

Not only the government of India was suspected of being involved in this kidnapping but also the two most corrupt regimes in the Caribbean, namely, Antigua and Dominica.

Despite Metal Choskl’s checkered past, I hope these two vagabonds in corruption one day soon be dragged before a judge. You didn’t have to agree with someone’s lifestyle to defend them from injustice. Justice should be for all.

Totally agree. Even criminals have certain rights that should not be violated. Whether we like it or not, he was at the time, an Antiguan citizen.
No surprise though. Under this very nasty and extremely corrupt regime, Dominica has been involved in everything unsavory.
Dominica has never had a government that has been at the center of so many illegalities. What a shame!
