Minister Poponne-Skerrit gives update on progress of Housing Recovery Project

Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Melissa Poponne-Skerrit

Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Melissa Poponne-Skerrit has announced that a total of 309 homes have been built under the Housing Recovery Project, amounting to an estimated value of US$40 million.

She made the disclosure during a press conference this week.

“Under the Housing Recovery Project we plan to build 420 homes, so far out of that we have built 309 homes at an estimated value of about US$40 million,” she said.

The minister explained that in 2018 Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit announced that his government would build 5,000 homes by 2030. “And just as a way to update you as to where we are at attaining these [goals], we have surpassed the halfway mark both in target and time-frame, and so I am proud to say that we are well on our way to becoming the first climate-resilient country, of course with housing leading at the forefront,” she said.

According to Poponne-Skerrit, the Housing Recovery Project and all other housing initiatives have employed hundreds within the construction sector, offering people an opportunity to learn on the job, and enhance their skills.

“They were also trained in resilient building codes which they can now apply to their own contracting businesses,” she stated.

She continued, “What we did is that we intentionally selected contractors and tradesmen within the communities where the homes were built to ensure that the monies will keep circulating within the communities and stay within the families.”

The HRP in Dominica is a government-led initiative designed to rebuild and enhance the resilience of the housing sector. It aims to replace destroyed houses and streamline the application process for eligible residents. The project is funded by the World Bank and targets citizens whose homes were completely destroyed by Hurricane Maria in 2017.

You know someone once impressed me that the English language in Dominica, is not the same as that spoken, or written elsewhere. I did not argue or ask for some clarification, I simply accept that American English, and Cambridge English which the British taught me when I was a kid defers slightly. It is however; ridiculous to read this dunce woman Melisa talking about ” Housing Recovery Project; whereas the definition is simply this: Housing recovery refers to programs and strategies that aim to provide stable housing for individuals in recovery from substance-use disorders.
First strategy: Provides housing without requiring compliance with recovery services.
Recovery housing: Set in sober living communities where residents share the goal of sobriety and receive outpatient and onsite services and counseling.
Then again recovery means return to a normal state of health, mind, or strength: Simultaneously it is the action or process of regaining possession or control of something…

Just a matter of time before Dominicans hear about the sad end of yourself, your husband and all those greedy and purchased ministers that destroyed our country. Your day in office is quickly coming to an end , and great shall be the fall according to Matthew 7:27. I just hope all you don’t overdose or do nothing stupid, when that day comes

How many mansions you and your husband own? Did either you or your husband own a house before you got into politics? Do your salaries combined justify what you own? Don’t tell us a damn about housing recovery project unless you tell us where the hell you get your money from. In fact according to Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit ” Go to hell”.

It irks me every time I see or hear Melissa being addressed as a minister of government. Seriously, this lady is NOT qualified to be even a senator. Can someone disabuse me this notion by informing me of Melissa’s academic accomplishments.

A government is as good as the people it is comprised of. We need persons not only people of integrity but intelligent, erudite, rational, articulate, empathetic citizens, in fact, fact, the best that the country has to offer.

Those who fervently disagree with me please answer this question honestly. Would Melissa be capable to contribute constructively in a regional or international
conference on urban renewal and other weighty topics of discussion? Asking Melissa to make a contribution at such forums is like asking a fish to climb a tree.

Housing is a necessity of life. There is always a shortfall of houses in the majority of countries around the world. Therefore, it is incumbent on those elected official to create the fertile economic environment for families to earn to own.

In this specific case the World Bank have provided the capital to build houses for those who suffered losses in 2017, EIGHT years ago. This has been too long in coming. What is even more egregious only political supporters of the incumbent party will get to occupy ( not own) these houses, even though Hurricane Maria did not distribute which houses to destroy.

Oh, what an awful, discriminatory, ruling administration, concocted of bandits, miscreants and opportunistic liars. God is crying!

None of the money came from Dominica.
Many homes – especially the apartment buildings – are already falling into a state of disrepair because they were constructed on the cheap. They are becoming ghettos.
The homes in Bellevue Chopin have terrible plumbing and were also constructed with poor quality materials.
    This is the reality.
