The Ministry of Education, Human Resource Planning, Vocational Training & National Excellence has publicly outlined concerns about attempts from members of the public to open private schools without first obtaining a valid licence to operate from that ministry.
“We wish to inform the public that Sections 95 and 96 of the Education ACT, 11 of 1997 clearly outline the requirement for operation of a private school,” stated an announcement from the ministry.
The announcement further stated that institutions operating without a valid license violate the established legal statutes.
“Note that it remains the responsibility of parents to request from the institution a copy of the license to operate prior to registering students at these institutions,” the announcement added. “ The public is asked to be guided accordingly.”

Minister, great move. I support the public notice and public education. Good!
However, why is this document unsigned? It lacks authenticity. It looks like something the PS intended to send out to the media, but someone beat him to it. Not good.
Given that the start of the school year is only a few weeks away, ten days ago I emailed the minister as follows:
Following the engagement of an independent structural engineer to conduct a full investigation of the DGS auditorium roof collapse and a comprehensive assessment of all structures under construction at the site, can you say if and when the findings of the investigation will be made available to the public?
