Missing teen found

Jahshawne Alfred, missing since January 24, was found by police today

After six days of heart-wrenching uncertainty, the search for the missing 13-year-old boy, Jahshawne Alfred, has come to a positive end. Authorities located him in the Canefield area, providing a sense of relief for his anxious family.

Janelle McDowell, a distressed mother from the community of Fond Saint Jean, had been desperately seeking her son since his mysterious disappearance on Wednesday, January 24, 2024. Jahshawne, a student, had left school, visited his grandmother’s residence in Pottersville, dropped off his school bag, and casually mentioned that he was going to grab something to eat. Unfortunately, that was the last time he was seen, leaving his family grappling with anxiety and worry.

In an earlier interview with Dominica News Online (DNO) today, his mother acknowledged that this wasn’t the first time he had gone missing. However, the heightened fears surrounding this particular incident prompted her to report Jahshawne’s disappearance to the police, initiating an investigation to trace his whereabouts.

The latest update from police sources confirms that contrary to initial concerns, he was found unharmed and allegedly  revealed that he chose to stay away from home.

There is no mention of the boy’s father.

Could it be that he is absent from his son’s life?

What’s going on at home that’s causing him to run away? Does an investigation need to be done?

Hello and good afternoon my people. Look lady you need a good leather belt to give this child a beating. He wasted our Police time and resources when our Police could have used this time to go after criminals. Lady you have no control of your child so if there’s a next time don’t bother our Police just turn him over to the State.

I’m sorry but the police force isn’t “busy” going after criminals. If a child is missing it’s their job to carry out an investigation.

Mental and emotional illnesses have reached pandemic levels among our youth. Though always lurking in the background, this debilitating scourge has reared its ugly head in recent times while demonstrating that it is not a respecter of person, family or country.

Previous generations either tried to ignore, hide or dismiss the emotionally and mentally unstable in the presence of widespread stigmatization in the absence of adequate social services support.

Governments must come to grips with the exploding proliferation of mental illness that will continue to exact a greater toll on affected individuals, families and the public if left unchecked.

So he was a runaway. Hope Welfare/Child Services opens up an investigation as to why he decided to do.

Stop disturbing us with your obviously disturbed child. Take him to a doctor to find out why he is leaving home without notice.

That is so nice of him, to wander away and have his family worried about his whereabouts. The only thing is, the original story did not mention that he had done that before.
