Mother and daughter granted bail following their arrest after student altercation

Adama Shillingford of Stockfarm and her 14-year-old daughter have been granted bail in the amount of $10,000 each following their arrest and charges stemming from an incident that occurred at River Bank in Roseau on Friday, April 4, 2025.

A viral video showed an altercation involving students, during which one student threw a liquid substance in another’s face.

Shillingford appeared before Magistrate Hanson Valerie at the Roseau Magistrate’s Court on Monday, April 7, 2025. She is accused of battery on a minor, assault on a minor for splashing a liquid substance (alkali) into the eyes of the victim, possession of a black handle silver-blade knife, and aiding and abetting her teenage daughter in allegedly assisting with the act.

Shillingford, who had pleaded guilty to the charge of possession of an offensive weapon, changed her plea to not guilty on all four charges after consultation with her attorney Zena Moore Dyer.

As part of her bail conditions, Shillingford must report to the Roseau Police Station once a week.

The case has been adjourned to July 18, 2025.

Meanwhile, her teenage daughter, who faces two summary charges, has pleaded not guilty to both charges and is expected to appear before a juvenile court on April 9, 2025.

Does Dominica have a media association? DNO is being accused as plagiarism. This should have been settled in an amicable manner. Pointing fingers in such an accusatory manner is very uncouth and embarrassing.

Hot debate. What do you think? Thumb up 2 Thumb down 6

I sincerely hope that the mother receives the maximum penalty for such a heinous conduct. My emotions go out to the fourteen-year-old, who is a child who thinks as such but was supported by the person who gave her birth. I hope you may be separated from your mother, young woman, because she is not guiding you properly. I pray for the individuals who have been affected, but they must also learn not to become involved in such circumstances. That’s not good for your reputation.

DNO, this practice is highly unprofessional and unethical.
It is unacceptable that you consistently listen to my reports on DBS, then record and publish the same information with little to no changes—without crediting the original source. I spend entire day in court to gather the information. Meanwhile, you do not send anyone to court, yet you publish content based on my work without any acknowledgment. This is not only unfair but a blatant disregard for journalistic integrity. I urge you to put an end to this unethical practice immediately. Respect for original reporting and proper attribution is the least we should expect from you.

ADMIN: Let’s set the record straight: your accusation is false.

There may be factual similarities in our story (you don’t own the facts), but to suggest we intentionally lift another’s work without credit is not only untrue but also a blatant smear against Dominica News Online.

Your unfounded accusation implies a pattern of behavior on our part that simply does not exist. It’s telling that you’ve never made any prior attempts to address this with us directly. As you very well know, we have consistently provided (or offered) full attribution to our sources, and we remain open to correcting or updating our articles whenever necessary.

Rest assured, a more comprehensive response to your baseless claims is forthcoming. We will not let this unfounded attack go unchallenged.
