The village of San Sauveur is gearing up for its annual celebration of the Feast of Saint Isidore on Pentecost Monday, June 9, with an exciting new feature this year: a motorcade honoring Dominica’s Calypso Monarch, Joy Stoute, who hails from that village.
According to Ernie JnoFinn, one of the event’s organizers, the festivities will kick off early in the morning with a motorcade starting from Tarish Pit at approximately 8:30 a.m. The motorcade is being held to honour Joy Stoute , celebrating her achievements and her roots in San Sauveur.
“Our monarch, Joy, will be part of the celebration this year, and we want to showcase her talent and pride for our community,” JnoFinn explained.
The motorcade will lead into the traditional procession, which begins at 9:30 a.m., culminating at the church for the main event — a vibrant Eucharistic mass at 10 a.m. The celebration is deeply rooted in local tradition, with the procession featuring bands, the customary lapo kabwit, and the presentation of farm produce, honoring Saint Isidore, the patron saint of farmers.
After the mass, the community will honor an elder, with Joy Stoute participating by presenting a plaque and performing the sashing ceremony. The festivities continue with a mini-market under the almond tree in the churchyard, where farm produce will be sold with proceeds benefiting the church, the Grotto Home, and the Infirmary.
The day’s entertainment will conclude with a mini Calypso show on the church grounds, featuring Joy and her fellow Calypsonians, providing joyful entertainment for attendees as they enjoy lunch and shop for local produce.
JnoFinn extended a warm invitation to all Dominicans to join the celebration, emphasizing the importance of community, tradition, and gratitude.
“All roads lead to San Sauveur on Pentecost Monday. Come early for the parade, join us for the mass, and stay for the festivities,” she urged.
This year’s celebration promises to be a memorable blend of spiritual reverence and cultural pride, honoring the legacy of Saint Isidore and spotlighting local talent like Joy Stoute.
