Chief Cultural Officer Earlson Matthew has announced a new venue for the staging of the National Madam Wob Dwiyet Pageant scheduled for Wednesday, October 22, 2025.
Initially, the pageant was set to take place at the Old Mill Cultural Centre. However, he said during a statement on Tuesday that the venue has been changed and will now be held at the Massacre Indoor Sporting Facility for the comfort of patrons during the rainy season.
“Cultural activities continue throughout the month of October. We know that this is the rainy season, but the show must go on and we have to be proactive now that we have the knowledge of an incoming weather system, so with that said, the Madam Wob Dwiyet Pageant, carded for the 22nd of October, will now be staged at the Massacre Indoor Sporting Facility, because the comfort of our patrons means a lot to us,” he said.
Four vibrant young ladies from across Dominica will compete for the prestigious title of Madam Wob Dwiyet.
They are: Travel Agent, Virginia Mendes representing Loubiere/Wallhouse, Cynthia Talbert representing Pichelin, Angelica “Teacher Fiah” Gasper representing Castle Bruce, and Owner of Everglow Beauty Salon, Evelina Blanc representing Grand Bay and Mahaut.
The pageant is set to begin at 8:00 PM.
Tickets for the event cost $60 for bleachers and $70 for regular seating. Ticket outlets are Bullseye Pharmacy and Old Mill Cultural Centre.
Meanwhile, Matthew encourages the public to wear their Chapo Pay on Friday, October 24, 2025, in celebration of ‘Jounen Chapo Pay’ day.
“Also remember that Friday is Jounen Chapo Pay, so we’re looking forward to heavy participation in the schools, business places, government offices, everywhere,” Matthew encouraged. “We know that we have many visitors on island–both returning Dominicans as well as foreigners–for the World Creole Music Festival. So let’s give them a taste of what true Dominican culture is all about.”
