President of Dominica, Her Excellency Sylvanie Burton, welcomed the new Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Dominica, His Excellency Sherif Reda Ahmed Shehata, this week.
“Today’s world presents us with challenges of great complexity. Climate change, food insecurity, public health crisis, economic instability, and the persistent threat of conflict and humanitarian distress,” she said. “No nation, large or small, can confront these challenges in isolation. They require partnerships grounded in solidarity and shared purpose.”
Burton noted that Dominica commends Egypt’s leadership in climate diplomacy, particularly for hosting COP27, which promotes international discussions on adaptation efforts.
She continued, “Dominica, as a small island developing state, is particularly vulnerable to the adverse effects of climate change. We welcome Egypt’s leadership in climate diplomacy, especially in the hosting of the COP27 conference, which advances global dialogue on adaptation, mitigation, and financing for climate resilience.”
Burton added, “We see tremendous opportunity for cooperation between our countries in the areas of renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, disaster risk reduction, and environmental management.”
Similarly, she stated that Egypt’s long-standing expertise in water resource management education and cultural preservation offers valuable lessons for Dominica, as the country continues to build a resilient and sustainable society.
Meanwhile, the new ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Dominica, His Excellency Sherif Reda Ahmed Shehata, said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Egypt and Dominica in 2010, the two nations have consistently demonstrated a shared commitment to dialogue, cooperation, and mutual support on the regional and international stages.
“Over the years, we have fostered a relationship grounded in trust and guided by common principles, peaceful coexistence, development, and solidarity among nations,” he emphasized. “ Though the geographic distance between our two nations is considerable, the shared values and friendship bring us ever closer.”
He indicated that Egypt and Dominica share common objectives rooted in the respect for international law, as well as the commitment to peace, dialogue, and the peaceful resolution of conflicts.
“Our nations have also worked side by side within multilateral frameworks, advocating for climate justice, sustainable development, and the interests of the global South,” he noted. “Today, I’m here to reaffirm Egypt’s commitment to deepening our bilateral ties, whether in the fields of trade, education, tourism, cultural exchange, we see vast potential for cooperation that will benefit both our peoples.”
As new ambassador to Dominica, he promised to work to strengthen these bonds and to explore new avenues of collaboration.
