New cadre of police graduates today, exceeding past numbers

Fifty-one new officers at police recruit graduation class 2022

Fifty-nine new police officers will officially join the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force (CDPF) today, surpassing previous cohorts in number.

The officers will graduate at a ceremony scheduled to be held at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium from 4:30 PM.

They underwent six months of intensive training which was designed and implemented to provide them with the requisite skills and knowledge to enable them to provide police service to the community.

In September 2024, National Security Minister Rayburn Blackmoore made a statement that moving forward the government will focus on effective report writing and protection of the crime scenes, to ensure “that the evidence collected is not compromised and all the fundamentals that can actually affect a case can be dealt with.”

“We have talent within our local space,” he noted. “We have a former retired police superintendent, so he is going to assist in having lectures starting next month, so we can have those courses to train as many police officers as possible in the area of report writing and collecting evidence.”

In April 2022, 51 young men and women from across Dominica— 38 males and 13 females joined the CDPF. This was reportedly the largest induction the police service had seen at any one time.
