Works are ongoing on a new fire station and magistrate’s court in Grand Bay.
This was according to Minister for National Security Rayburn Blackmoore, who held a site visit in the area this week.
“What is happening here right now in Grand Bay has to be tied with a national development approach and plan from the government and the leadership of the government that is tied to our national resilience,” he said. “So it is not by accident that we see a new community emerging in Grand Bay, the expansion of the village itself, the need for new services that will allow us also to have our own rescue team in Grand Bay.”
He said the area is a very vulnerable one.
Blackmoore said the building will house additional fire officers and a magistrate court to create a better and more conducive environment for magistrates to discharge their duties.
“So if we are going to have more people in the area, there is need for actually better response and quicker response in the event of disaster,” he stated.
Blackmoore hopes that the new magistrate’s court building will create an environment where magistrates will spend the time needed on the bench, and dispose of the cases before them.

Meanwhile, Acting Fire Chief Wayne Letang said the new fire station being constructed in Grand Bay is a dream come true.
“We at the fire service are very excited about this project that is happening, something that has been in the pipeline for a while, and when we look at disasters such as [Tropical Storm] Erika in this district, we saw the need for even better fire coverage in this area,” he stated.
Additionally, he pointed out that the building will be used for future expansion of the fire service.
“In this area, we have facilities for females,” Letang explained. “In the Grand Bay district now we have only one female per shift working, but with this station, we could have at least four females per shift working in the district.”
He further explained that this station is a dream come true.
“It has the features which will uplift the operations of the fire department, the gym,” Letang noted.
He went on to state that the downstairs of this building is strictly operational and upstairs residential.
Letang revealed that this station will be the second largest.
“So, this will be the first purposely built domestic fire station in the country,” he said.
Boy Poopoo-U have belly eh!
After giving Vince a seat for Skerrit that is all Grand Bay is being “promised”? The sad thing is they will vote DLP again no matter what. SMMFH!
“So if we are going to have more people in the area, there is need for actually better response and quicker response in the event of disaster,” he stated..
I don’t know but asking if there is a hospital in Grandbay. To me if the plan is to help build the place with more people then why not put a good hospital first to save and protect lives? Why a hospital and Court first? Yes, a fire station is important and can save lives if but a fire station cannot saves more lives than a good functioning hospital and a court should definitely take priority over a good hospital, as no one will die if they have a case to attend in Roseau but definitely many sick people might die before the ambulance or fire truck has to drive them from Grandbay to Roseau.
While some might say it’s a back to front upside down vision, I see it as a blindfolding vision
Labour is working while UWP sit on their butt all day complaining and doing nothing.
