Minister for National Security Rayburn Blackmoore has announced that the construction of a new fire station in Grand Bay is ongoing and will house 16 officers.
He made the announcement during a handing-over ceremony of two trucks to the Fire and Ambulance Service last week.
“As we speak, we are constructing a new fire station in Grand Bay, which will house 16 officers, and we are also equipping that fire station with appliances,” he said.
Blackmoore continued, “We are also working in concert with the Government of the United States of America and received the funding for a fire and ambulance service building in the village of La Plaine.”
He explained that the contractor has already begun to mobilize, and construction will commence during the course of this month to build a new fire station in Laplaine.
Meanwhile, he revealed that presently an additional fire truck is being manufactured.
“It takes more than a year to manufacture a truck,” Blackmoore indicated.
He said the truck being manufactured is worth around $1.5 million.
According to him, based on the schedule that he was provided with, the truck was originally expected to be in Dominica by April of this year, “but there is a little lapse in terms of the time for the manufacturing process, so it might be a month later.”
