A new minimum wage for Dominica will take effect on October 1. Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit made the announcement during a press conference on Thursday.
“The government has appointed the advisory board, the Acting Minister of Labour Honourable Pinard reported to the Cabinet that he met with the board a couple weeks ago, and the board is doing its work. The mandate is that a report should come to us in September so that a new minimum wage will take effect in Dominica on October 1,” he said.
He continued, “So we are hoping that they can do their work diligently and judiciously to provide the minister with advice on what they believe will be a fair rate for minimum wage in Dominica, of various categories of workers.”
According to Skerrit, the mandate by the parliament is for the government to give effect to a minimum wage on October 1, 2025.
“And so we look forward to that,” he stated. “ When we last increased the minimum wage in 2021, we indicated that every 3 years we would have a review…”

Because of the runaway cost of living, nothing but a 30% will make a difference in the life of the average worker.
