The Nigerian Community in Dominica is set to commemorate the 65th anniversary of Nigeria’s independence with a special celebration organized by the Nigeria Dominica Association (NDA). The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 25th, 2025, beginning at 12:30 PM, at the Saint Alphonsus Parish Hall in Goodwill, Roseau.
Organizers say that this year’s commemoration carries the theme “Nigeria @65: A Nation Evolving Among a Comity of Nations,” reflecting on Nigeria’s ongoing development and its role within the international community. The milestone highlights Nigeria’s history of resilience, progress, unity, and its significant contributions globally.
The event will feature distinguished guests from the government of Dominica, including Her Excellency, President Sylvanie Burton, and Hon. Dr. Vince Henderson, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business, Trade, and Energy. Their presence underscores the strong ties between the Nigerian community and the broader Dominican society–made more poignant by the occurrence of the celebration within Dominica’s own Independence season.
According to the Association, participants can look forward to an engaging program that will include musical performances and cultural displays. Traditional Nigerian cuisine will also be a highlight, with offerings such as jollof rice and egusi soup, providing attendees with an authentic taste of Nigeria’s rich culinary heritage, as the team expressed, “no Nigerian celebration is complete without its legendary cuisine!”
