Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced what it described as an “action-packed” schedule of cricket from May to December 2024 in the Caribbean but Dominica is not on the list for hosting any of the matches.
The schedule will feature three international Windies home tours against South Africa, England, and Bangladesh.
CWI Chief Executive, Johnny Grave, explained why Dominica and Grenada were left out.
“With significant improvements being made to the National Stadium in Grenada and Windsor Park in Dominica we were unable to host International cricket there this year, but we are already looking forward to returning to both venues in 2025,” he stated.
It is unknown what type of “significant improvements” are being made to the Windsor Park Sports Stadium at this time. The exclusion of Dominica is a blow to cricket fans on the island that comes on the heels of the government’s decision not to host any matches of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 due to the country’s inability to meet implementation timelines.
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 is to be held in the West Indies and the United States in June 2024 and Dominica was shortlisted as a potential host for one group stage match and two games in the Super 8 stage of the tournament.
The shortlist created much excitement on the island and efforts were made to upgrade and enhance the Windsor Park Sports Stadium and Benjamin’s Park in Portsmouth, including the creation of additional pitches. However, the contractors’ timelines indicated that the work would not be completed before the tournament’s commencement.
Subsequently, the Government of Dominica decided it would not be prudent to commit to hosting these games–to the disappointment of many.
According to CWI, the upcoming home tours begin with a visit from South Africa, for three (3) T20 Internationals (T20Is) at Sabina Park, before the start of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
“The Proteas then return to the region, after the West Indies Test Tour to England in July, with a two (2) Test Match Series to be played in Trinidad and Guyana, followed by a second three (3) match T20I Series at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad, ahead of the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL),” it said.
“Following a white-ball tour away to Sri Lanka in October, the West Indies will welcome England to the Caribbean for a white-ball tour consisting of three (3) CG United One Day Internationals (ODIs) and five (5) T20Is. The series will be played across Antigua, Barbados, and Saint Lucia…”
The home tours will end when the Windies face Bangladesh in an all-format tour before Christmas with two (2) Test Matches in Antigua and Jamaica, three (3) CG United ODIs in St. Kitts, and three (3) T20Is in St. Vincent.
Grave called on cricket fans to rally around the West Indies in the upcoming matches.
“We urge fans to rally behind our Men in Maroon as we strive for a historic third T20 World Cup title and seek to secure all important points in the ICC World Test Championship,” he stated.

Why must Dominicans be deprived of international and regional entertainment like cricket, Carifta Games, et cetera? Are the people not deserving of witnessing these events live?
Vision improves happiness and abates misery. The present Roosevelt-led regime is a clear existential threat to the present and future generations of Dominicans. We can do better.
I believe one of the reasons, is lock of hotels room & airlift …
So i guess is just Creole Fest that the stadium will be used for. Remember when the Windsor Park was actually a multipurpose sports and entertainment facility? All sports used to be played there any and every day of the week. Amateur and professional games. Basketball, cricket, football, netball, volleyball, track and field. Every afternoon that place used to be filled with sports enthusiasts. Now, the place is under heavy security. and only cricket they want to promote there. Occasionally we will get some football but that is very far and few. Basketball does play in the forecourt but not like how basketball used to run. i dont know why the country is how it is.
The Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica is a crying shame! This would have been a funny joke if this was not so serious! This is a serious economic blow and major loss of free tourism marketing and revenue earnings for Dominica! Labour ka maltwavay!
signs of things to come? what sense it makes to spend how many millions of dollars on Windsor Park and we can’t host one international game.? What does it profit us to go around boasting about Windsor Park when cricket west indies wanted to give us world cup cricket but the destroyer of everything that’s good says No thank you?
is this our practice for the so called international Airport my people?
I have much more to say but DNO doesn’t post as if DNO is now a photo album
DNO should stop playing politics in favour of UWP.Significant improvement is taking place in Grenada and Dominica.According to DNO it is unknown what type of significant improvement is being at THIS TIME.DNO does not know what is happening at the Windsor Park.Well Mr.DNO there is nothing happen, the Windsor Park is 100% and ready to go,nothing wrong.Blind Bat.
@Lin Clown
It’s not DNO alone that does not know of the significant improvement. No Dominican knows. You are lost in a foreign land, did not go to school, you called yourself a clown, so it’s you alone that know about the significant improvement. You will remain DNO’S laughing stock.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh. see what we missing out on. can you imagine that. we, in DA love the game sooooo much and look at what is happening to us. very sad indeed. DA is one of the Island that get the biggest crowd to support the game , and the players love coming to Dominica. wow so disappointing. that’s not good on the government part.
