Nude cruise makes inaugural visit to Dominica on Saturday

The Norwegian Pear

An 11-day cruise during which passengers can shed their clothes, and according to the organizers their worries, set sail from Miami on Monday, February 3, and Dominica is on the list of places it will visit.

The cruise is taking place on the Norwegian Pearl, dubbed the Big Nude Boat 2025, and the ship is expected to drop anchor in Dominica on Saturday, February 8, according to the itinerary.

However, don’t expect to see visitors walking around in Roseau in their birthday suits because nudity is allowed only on the ship, except for some specific circumstances such as inside of dining rooms, docked at port, and so on. Additionally, the majority of excursions organized by the ship will require clothing.

Organizers say the cruise features a variety of entertainment, including a passenger talent show and Bare-fest events. Dining attire ranges depending on the location, with a nude buffet area and clothing-required dining rooms.

The ‘au naturale’ trip was planned by Bare Necessities, a travel agency specializing in clothing-optional cruises.

“We’ll be sailing aboard the lovely Norwegian Pearl, a 2,300-passenger ship with loads of entertainment, lots of open deck space, and multiple dining options,” the cruise website reads.

“Her specialty restaurants and a large buffet area for nude outdoor dining will easily accommodate a wide variety of culinary tastes.”

Although the cruise promises a clothes-free experience, proper nudist etiquette and other rules will be strictly enforced for guests. There will be a self-serve buffet that serves a clothes-free area but clothes are required in the dining rooms. Guests are expected to sit on a towel when naked or in a thong in their staterooms, on the pool deck, in the buffet area, or on excursions.

Taking photos of nude guests on the cruise without consent is prohibited and “no photo zones” are located throughout the ship. Additionally, fondling and inappropriate touching are prohibited, and being naked at port is not allowed. Lingerie and fetish wear are also prohibited.

“When the ship is at sea or anchored in a port, passengers can be nude unless announcements have been made to the contrary,” the cruise’s website reads.

Guests who fail to follow these rules will be kicked off the cruise, the travel company said. The Norwegian Pearl has a 2,300-passenger capacity, with prices ranging from $US 2,000 to as high as $US 33,155.

The entire cruise itinerary shows stops at Great Stirrup Bay in the Bahamas, San Juan in Puerto Rico, Phillipsburg in St. Maarten, Roseau in Dominica, Fort-de-France in Martinique, and Castries in Saint Lucia. The journey culminates back in Miami on Friday, February 14, coinciding with Valentine’s Day.

Let’s hope some of them get off the ship and spend some money in the Nature Isle. Nature meets Nature.

Nudity, is nothing new in Dominica, as far as I can remember it is in our culture! I don’t know how many times as a kid I saw male and female bathing in the Roseau River together.
In our innocent years, people bathe above the old Bridge, and below the new Bridge naked as they were born, they were people of all ages, I don’t know how these bridges are called now: Interestingly rape was not on the male agenda.
I personally and a group of people every Sunday would go to place in the river at Bath Estate in the river and bathe naked!
Even to the last time I visited, I went to Woodford Hill beach where I found people still bathing naked!
And anyone who try to deny that that’s in our culture would be a hypocrite!

Francisco, this nude bathing you’re referring to was as a result of poverty. It had nothing to do with culture. Folks were simply unable to afford some swim wear. This is 2025 and we’re now capable of purchasing swim wear. Also, we’re now more aware of what is considered ‘civilized behavior’, we’re not animals therefore this nude stuff is not going to fly in DA. Let those tourists keep their nude behavior practices in their places of origin.

But, you missed the point: because even in the period when I and others bathe at Bath Estate in the River naked, the year was 1965!
Within that time I worked for J. Astaphan & Co: which was a modern day department Store which featured a “Woolworth” department where bathing suits for women, bathing-trunks for men were sold!
Mark, on Sundays, I used to drive a Volxwsgon Van to the North, with such and other apparel and sold. That was in the green gold era, when everyone could afford such clothing. You can’t blame a custom on poverty, hence; that must be attributed to culture, it must be cultural!
If it is not cultural, how come people still indulge the practice to the present?
I not return recently, but each time I return, I go to a place at Londonderry river at a place called Dam, strip naked and dive in and swim!
So, in the twenty second century, can I blame poverty that.
Have you ever heard the term “nude colony?” Not in Africa; in America!

You also missed my second point which is, folks are now more aware that this nude bathing thing is primitive behavior. Our standards today are more aligned in what is considered civilized behavior therefore this nude bathing is not something you will readily find on island. What was acceptable behavior yesterday is not good enough today and most probably won’t be good enough tomorrow.
There is a big difference between what occurs in a nudist colony and the rest of society therefore the situation is not the same.
Lastly, it blows my mind that you’re still indulging in that type of behavior even after living overseas for such a long time. Aren’t you mindful of other users in the river? I conclude that you may be still living in the past. You would be arrested for indecent exposure in America if you did that barring a “nudist colony’.

My friend there is nothing primitive about that!
Remember humans are all born naked! Man to this day I walk naked in my house! Up and down the stairs; my American woman simply looks at me and says “but Francisco you are naked again?”
Sometimes both of us strip and walk around the house.
If it is primitive to bathe naked in a river, then the Japanese Sumo Wrestlers are primitive to be on television less than half naked,
And what happens on carnival day when people, women especially take pleasure, going in streets practically naked, jumping up and down gyrating, suggestively, these days with only a g-string over you know what; ( I doh calling de ting name) cause if I do everybody will know what it is and I doh want to corrupt the mind of little children reading DNO!
But, I believe the sleaze we see on carnival day, and every day on television are worse and primitive than bathing naked in public. “Naked and Afraid” TV series, naked people in bush, paid for exposure their privacy!

I offered my studio as a venue. DDA requested an advanced visit for their “team” but alas they failed to confirm a time and date. Perhaps the paintings and sculptures in my series ”Daughters of the Caribbean Sun” are too revealing. Ironically, Dominica is promoted as the Natures Isle of the Caribbean, yet going back to nature is frowned upon.
