NYCD joins in commemorating Caribbean Youth Day

Paul Baron (centre) is president of the NYCD

The National Youth Council of Dominica (NYCD) along with Caribbean Regional Youth Council (CRYC) and other Youth Oriented stakeholders commemorate Caribbean Youth Day today.

The Commonwealth of Dominica as a small developing country with an increasing youthful population places emphasis on ensuring the protection and holistic development of the nation’s youth.

Caribbean Regional Youth Council is celebrated under the theme: “Confronting The Social Issues Impacting Education For An Economically Sustainable Region.”

According to a statement from President of the NYCD, Paul Baron, this year’s theme for Caribbean Youth Day is extremely commendable as it calls on the Caribbean populate to address the different social issues that are negatively impacting our youth and as the official umbrella youth organization for the Commonwealth of Dominica we see it necessary to advocate and champion the cause for increase measures to be put in place for safeguarding our youth not only by the Government/public sector but civil society, the corporate community, the guardians and wider community.

He further stated that it is also fitting that on Caribbean Youth Day the National Youth Council of Dominica in conjunction with the Climate Resilience Execution Agency for Dominica (CREAD) launches its Strong Minds Strong Bodies project.

“This program is a holistic, regular scheduled out-of-school activities for children geared towards opening their minds, fostering their creativity, physical fitness, well-being, confidence and self-esteem, contributing to resilient mindsets. The pilot program will begin in three (3) communities: Newtown, Soufriere, and Kalinago Territory,” Baron said.

He said the NYCD calls on every adult to make a positive investment in lives of the Dominican youth and commemorating Caribbean Youth Day by ensuring that the young people in their homes and communities are in safe, child-friendly homes and schools.

All because of bad upbringing causing problem for society. The youths don’t listen, take orders and obey rules in the home so, when they get in public the police took over. If they are called youths that means must be living with parents or guardian. Respect and manners in the home and for others living in there. If you are a child you should behave as a child and soforth, instead, parents describe them as modern. Mr. Baron good luck in your endeavour’s

People are just attacking the President and the National Youth Council. What have they done for the youth of the country! nothing and still choose to criticize persons who are trying to do something.

This article highlights a recognized day and launching of an initiative. Nobody is talking about the positivity that will come from the project even though it may be minuscule. It is still something.

You cant place all the problems of the youth on Mr. Baron. If mechanisms and things have been put in place for them and they choose not to utilize it. Mr. Baron can be held responsible for that

At least he is trying something that’s more than what alot of people have been doing.

NYCD is just a disgrace right about now. The leadership, management structure and staff is blatantly flawed. Nothing is coming out that we can see. Just all talk and no action.

The head is like the blind leading the deaf. The staff is basically idle and useless
What has been done for the youth after election… Nothing+Nothing = More Nothing

Why are Dominican youth afraid to say that the NYCD has turned into a shell of what it once was. It is just a sham and is useless now.

I have had the pleasure of serving on this once esteemed Youth Council and the current state of affairs are simply sad.
When politics, whether Red or Blue, infiltrates an avenue that was designed to provide the youth with an unbiased and balanced platform to express their genuine needs and concerns we must ask ourselves a question as a country. Where do we go from here? What course of action is necessary in order to save this organization from total decay?
I for one believe in country before party and comrade Baron if you cannot separate your political aspirations from the work of the people I submit to you that you must do the Honorable thing and pass on the baton of power.

dont like to see how the Youth Council has fall from grace into disrepute. How is the NYC going to help people when they cant even help themselves. The board not correcting him, the office place is depressing and the staff is worse than the office space. The Youth Division doesn’t see that the NYC is malfunctioning and needs to step in, fix it, throw out all
People from there falling like ripe mango, youth are suffering He should take an interest in mental and physical illness.

Just in reply to previous comments. The members have been trying their utmost to change things around but Mr baron refuses to give a listening air or step down. He rather surrounds himself with the uncouth persons he has at his office which support him in what he does and undermines the executive members authorities. Stepping down does not seem like an option for him.

Mr Paul, what have you done for or on behalf of Dominican youths?
What is being done about the flooring :
    – endemic youth unenpolyment
    – alcohol and substance abuse
    – lack of identity n encouragement
    – dysfunctional Families n broken youths
    – youths pain given lack of role models
    – lack of opportunity under this government
    -youths breaking the law
    – getting youths to think critically n develop emotional intelligence
    – rampant poverty n people living below normal standards
You guys have not done one thing for the youths seriously speaking…
Problem you guys have gotten the disease of politicking n towing party lines..
You guys put party before human beings which is shameful..
Their is a group of young men and women who are diehard eat a food labourites who are poisoning the minds of the youths.
You find them alll around like bees n mad ants.. In every corner you alll fighting for Skerritt n labour. When labor is kicked out of office, you guys will suck salt, you…

Zammm what have you done yourself? Everything for you guys is politics. Where are u from? Do something in your community for the youth yourself so I can hear about you Zammmm. You do not have to support the government side for you to be productive in your country. Stop complain and criticize and get in gear mode and start something yourself. At the least show Mr. Baron r suggest to him some ways of dealing with some of the issues you indicated in your comment above. Let me see your critical thinking cap on and your emotional intelligence in gear. Since u are not fighting for anyone, then start to be a role model for the youth. You can be the # 1 role model for starters. Go Go Zammm! On your mark, get set go Zammm, Parler fini c’est action time. Start doing something seriously speaking. I can see u as someone not politicking, not towing, no disease, u not eating no food, you ain’t a bee or ant; you got all the answers. Giddy up come show encouragement! Bravo Zammm!
