OECS Chairman calls for adherence to rule of law and constitutionality in Dominica

OECS Chairman, Gaston Browne

Chairman of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), Gaston Browne, has called for calm in Dominica and for adherence to the rule of law and constitutionality.

The OECS chairman also called on all parties to respect the law of Dominica and the constitutional provisions for the holding of general elections that reflect the will of the people.

Residents have been protesting over the past few days demanding electoral reform before the December 6th general elections.

These demonstrations escalated last night with citizens pushing down barricades, forcing the police to use tear gas to disperse the angry crowd.

But the Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister stated that calm, an end to violence and other disruptive activity are essential to ensuring that general elections in Dominica are conducted in an atmosphere free of fear.

Prime Minister Browne is presently in Washington leading a CARICOM delegation to a US Congress Round Table on de-risking and correspondent banking relations.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, in an address to the nation this morning, blamed the opposition United Workers Party for the protests.

Skerrit said the protests are designed to provide a daily source of video and photo footage for daily transmission to the international media and select international agencies.

Caribbean leads are so typical, they will not take sides against a fellow PM, as they too may be guilty of the same practices, although Antigua has had electoral reform. In societies as dynamic as this world hosts with the evolution in democracy why are governments hell bent on this static view of maintaining the status quo? People the citizenry is who determines society direction and democracy is what gives us this inclusion whether majority or minority we are the evolution of society! Gaston Brown you need to condemn the refusal of the government to enact electoral reform in accordance with the constitution of the commonwealth of Dominica! Enhance the democratic process.

I personally find Brown is rude to blame someone in this. In his position is should maintain the first part of his statement and end it. Once getting party politics in there, hush your damn mouth.

Gaston, you are a hypocrite, you adhere to the rule of law when the Anti-Goianians (Antiguan’s) demanded electoral reform; within six months you ensured calm and peace, by issuing voter identification cards, hence Antigua remained peaceful.
If you are interested in the rule of law and adherence  to the rule of Law in Dominica, all you had to do while Roosevelt was in power prior to the dissolution of Parliament, was to advised him; or  demand that he adhere to the people, and do as required by the people, and that is simple introduce electoral reform.
Since Antigua’s independence, the Birds, George Walters, Baldwin Bird Spencer, and now you Gaston ruled over Antigua, you people transformed Antigua into a modern practically fully developed nation.

Antiguan’s are proud of Antigua, Thousands of Dominicans chose Antigua as home, hence you all insults our people by telling them Antigua is America for Dominicans. Talking crap while politicians in power in Dominica thieving the…

Yes, indeed while Antigua and the rest of the Caribbean are making economic progress, people are in full employment, Dominicans do not have that luxury of employment!
There are no job opportunities in Dominica. You Gaston helped, in the destruction of Dominica’s economy when you aided in the departure of Ross University School of medicine from our country, by the taxes you imposed on the students and other passengers transiting to Dominica whether they overnight in Antigua or not!
You are such a liar also; weeks after Ross University departed Dominica and began operating in Barbados, you spewed fart claiming you are going to help Dominica, by waving the transits fee on Ross students traveling to Dominica, to prevent Ross from leaving!
How conning, how deceitful are you sucker?

While all of you the rest of the Caribbean doing well, doing everything to promote progress in your country, you manipulate that puppet, and clown Roosevelt into working against our country.

Thank you so much for your UN-MUMUED contribution. It tells me you not MUMU because you talking.

But you was MUMU about the implementation of the Election Reform Report that was submitted by CARICOM and OAS. Make sure when you sending down your peace keeping force to Dominica, doh send any Dominican police in the Antiguan Police Force, send only Antiguan police, because we want Antiguans to see the result of our suffering. Then and only will your people feel what the Americans felt, when the Vietnamese retaliated to what was happening to their people in their countries by foreign forces.

Gaston Brown should simply call his friend and partner in c…me and tell him that there is election reform in Antigua and throughout the OECS states and therefore he needs to give the people what they want. If Gaston Brown does not have the balls to do that then tell him Shut up and according to Skerrit, “Go to hell”

Well Skerit if the reason for the protest is for photo ups we will gladly continued, we need international intervention. Your dirty deeds need to be exposed.

  16. November 20, 2019

Mr. Browne take some time to look at the Anti-Aparteid protest in south Africa. Look at the Bantu Laws in South Africa. And also remember that it was the steady stream of vidoes footage in the international media that helped to bring down aparteid and helped with the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Just because something is the law, does not mean it is right. Why don’t you tell your friend in Dominica to do electoral reform. It is amazing how some people can try to feed others their selective logic, and Bull Connor in the South ideology. I wonder if you would have asked Rosa Parks to get up, when she sat down in the front of the bus, or you would have asked those people who sat down at the lunch counter in the South to get up. Some of us need to grow a conscience.

Gaston Brown, on the situation in Venezuela, you and the rest of Caricom saw it fit to lecture the USA on sovereignty, territorial integrity and none noninterference in the affairs of other countries. You and other Caribbean leaders have behaved in a tone-deaf manner to the rumblings about electoral reform in Dominica over 10 years, now that your compatriot Skerritt has scheduled an election without the people’s wish for electoral reforms you coming on the eve of the vote and exhorting whom I must ask? Go to hell and follow the same lecture you gave to America on the Venezuelan issue.

Shame on you Mr. Gaston Browne! You stood idle by for all these years, whilst the opposition groups cried out to you in vain. You chose to prop up a corrupt regime and their equally corrupted electoral machinery.

It is well known that you are both of the Caribbean Labour Party fraternity and is expedient to cover each other. However electoral reform took place in your country and your electoral list is always sanitized . So to come here now at the 11th hour and pretend that you are a neutral party is simply disgraceful.

No one is listening to your biased speech. Use it on the swelling protest movement in front your doorsteps in Antigua.

Did Mr Skerritt in his address brush aside the peoples’ action to get electoral reform as “so called protest” or words to that effect or did i put words in his mouth. Does Mr Skerritt own a certificate of title to a parcel of land called Dominics with his slaves on it.

get out of there gaston brown. you all talking, but not addressing the problem. if you talking about the wants of the people, then you would have said skerritt should give the people electoral reform before election.you and skerrit are on the same page. we know that. you just recently had your protess in antigua. work for the people and they will respect you.so yes let the world see that we have issues. its like a parent who is beating his/her child and then telling the child to hush your mouth and then continuing with the beating. time for a new government. I am dominican don’t leave there now but my properties and family members are there. its my business.to much power given to skerrit.this is not a job a man should have for more than 2 terms.then he becomes a tyrant.Dominicans: pray this man out of office.its only prayer will work at this time.the devil involved in skerrit position in government. pray pray pray.

Who Gaston talking to about ADHERENCE to the rule of law and constitutionality in Dominica?

The citizens only or the Dominican citizenry and especially a certain one called Roosevelt Skerrit?

Was it the same Roosevelt Skerrit who once said that “NO LAW, NO CONSTITUTION will prevent him from contesting………..”?

So the citizens must adhere to the rule of law and the constitution; ummm, what about Roosevelt Skerrit, the Prime Minister of Dominica?

    November 19, 2019

Skerrit in his so called address to the nation, made no mention of the reason for the protest. It’s for electoral reform Skerrit. This is something that the citizens have been clamouring for over a number of years..The Commonwealth warned you Skerrit, Caricom warned you Skerrit, the OAS warned you Skerrit, many groups and civil society organisations warned you Skerrit that the people need reform….! So stop your crying..Are you seeking sympathy?
I think that peaceful protest should continue, and get bigger and bigger.
Electoral reform belongs to the people, and not to Skerrit.

Mr. Chairman INSPITE of the rule of law, the human being has a maximum tolerance because at the end of the day there comes a time when Enough is enough. It is always interesting to see how the so called “Rule of law” becomes a damn token of peace for those animals who hold office, sow division, despair, hopelessness and discord. Who use their position of power for profit, power and manipulation. Who abuse, disrespect and destroy our young women, who use money to tempt others and lead others into immorality.

How fortunate it is for them …. the politicians, the muppets that they are to use the term “rule of law” when they flagrantly assault that same rule of law that they hold as as badge of honor.

My fellow dominicans, don’t fight evil with evil. Our only way out of this mess that we find ourselves in is through education and unity. Let us put our faith not in men or the church (yes cause politicians use those to spread their filth too) But let us put faith in our…

Where are the voices for fair elections? No Csrbbean country in this day and age should put up with a fraudulent Electoral System. An election conducted under a corrupt Electoral System is no Election. The results are unreliable. Where are the voices of honesty to rebuke and repudiate Skerrit for trying to help his party to prevail with the most corrupt Electoral System in the entire English speaking Caribbean. Not a word from the other leaders of CARICOM who are complicit by their failure to condemn Skerrit’s corrupt practices.

Gaston, one of the major reason you were able to be in power today is due to your cleaned votrs list and voter ID cards were given to the citizen of Antigua.

This is what we are asking for in our country.

Therefore , please politely advise Skerrit to uncuff our electoral commission so they can give the people of Dominica a clean voters list and Voter ID cards so we can go to the polls.
