Official groundbreaking for international airport takes place tomorrow

International Airport Development Project

The Government of Dominica has announced the official groundbreaking ceremony for the highly anticipated International Airport development project. The historic event will take place on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at the Wesley site scheduled for 3:00 PM.

According to a statement from Government Press Secretary Dionne Durand-Smith in June 2021, the Government of Dominica signed a contractual agreement with Montreal Management Consultant Establishment (MMCE) for the construction of the International Airport and by March 2023  contractors had begun mobilization, and the excavation and backfilling of the site.

“The official groundbreaking ceremony on Saturday marks an important new phase of the project as the runway begins to take shape and construction progresses,” she said.

Furthermore, Durand-Smith stated that Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit along with key government officials and distinguished guests will gather to celebrate this significant milestone.

“The International Airport, we know, is said to be a catalyst for sustainable economic growth, it will enhance Dominica’s global connectivity and create numerous job opportunities,” she stated. “It also underscores the government’s commitment to building a prosperous Dominica and stimulating growth in tourism, in trade and in business.”

Durand-Smith continued, “Prime Minister Skerrit has emphasized that this is a national undertaking in which every Dominican has a stake.” The government is extending to members of the media and the public an open invitation to witness this groundbreaking ceremony, “as we continue with this major project that will shape the very future of our nation.”

She added that the ceremony will be carried live on all government social media platforms and on radio.

Those responsible for the project were forewarned about the instability of the site, but they didn’t heed the warning and proceeded regardless.

As has been proven at Antrim, no amount of filling and compacting will overcome the groundwater problem that they are faced with.

This fairytale project has done grievous environment damage to the landscape of the country. The land will be permanently scarred.

The Chinese are the ones who should be celebrating. They make up about 98% of the workforce for this ‘development’. Additionally, all the cement and poor quality building materials are procured from China.

The way things are going Dominica should be renamed Chinatown. The country has become a satellite of China.

A project that is almost 2 years into construction and we’re now having a GROUNDBREAKING!? WTF!?

Unless…this is what it is. Barefaced election campaigning at the expense of the state.

In Dominica, we‘ve given up good, honest and accountable government in exchange for SEWO. And guess what? Election campaigning is a whole lotta sewo. Give the people what they want then. The RED sewo train is loaded💰 and ready to roll.

Only in Dominica things happen in reverse. Good is Bad and Bad is Good; Truth is Lie and Lie is Truth; Right is Wrong and Wrong is Right; Building is first and Groundbreaking is last; Honesty is frowned on and Deception is applauded.

      Dominica is UNIQUE!!!!!!

Government is continuous. The UWP administration did the studies and selected a suitable area to build the international airport. Roosevelt, on coming to power by default, decided to destroyed a thriving community strictly for political reasons to build this airport.

Think about this for a few seconds. The site his regime has chosen is unsuitable for this type of development. Now the current regime has to spend hundreds of millions of dollars to import tons of cement to shore up the site.

For this project, the Roosevelt-led DLP administration, has chosen expensive, divisive partisan politics over common sense.

When a government makes foolish decisions that cost taxpayers $millions, it steals from the people.

Great journalism this. Just informing the people about a ground breaking ceremony for an airport a project that broke grounds four years ago. Very enlightening indeed!

A historical community was destroyed to start the construction of this monstrosity. Homeowners are still waiting for their cheques from the government as compensation for the destruction of their lands and houses. No headlines on that. But when t
some of the news outlets are called conduits for the government propaganda the editors holler.
