Open call for entries for Macmillan Education Young Environmental Scientists (YES) Competition

Macmillan Education Caribbean has announced the launch of the 2024 Young Environmental Scientists (YES) Competition. Starting on Monday, September 23, students aged 7 to 18 from throughout the Caribbean are invited to participate and present their creative solutions related to sustainable cities and communities. This competition is aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goal 11 and aims to inspire young scientists to tackle real environmental issues through research, analysis, and teamwork.

The competition is structured into two distinct categories. The first category is aimed at younger students, specifically those aged 7 to 11, who are encouraged to devise practical strategies for sustainable living in urban environments. The second category is for older students, aged 11 to 18, who are invited to create more sophisticated projects that focus on resilience and inclusivity within communities.

Students wishing to participate can register with the assistance of their teachers, who are encouraged to oversee their projects. Upon registration, participants will gain access to a comprehensive information pack that outlines the tasks for both primary and secondary levels, available through the Macmillan Education website.

Winners of the competition will be awarded exciting prizes, which include laboratory equipment for their schools and opportunities to engage in hands-on workshops with esteemed science authors and experts. A panel of scientific professionals will evaluate the entries, and the winners will be announced following the competition’s conclusion on November 29, 2024.
