Member of the United Progressive Party (UPP) Attorney Joshua Francis, said he is prepared to be part of any group that is “genuinely prepared” to stand up for Dominica and to help restore its economy.
He made the statement while speaking as a guest on Q-95 Radio’s Talk on the Block Program on Thursday.
“I am prepared to work in the interest of Dominica,” he said. “I am prepared to work with the people for their benefit.”
According to Francis who was once the Deputy Leader of the United Workers Party (UWP), the direction in which Dominica is heading is not the right one, “and I think we need to shift things in Dominica.”
“[As] a matter of fact we are making a lot of errors in Dominica and we may not live to experience the consequences of our errors,” he remarked.
Furthermore, Francis believes that all the opposition forces in Dominica would be more potent if they came together.
“Because for us to have a change of government we have to create an alternative,” Francis noted. “We have to give Dominicans an option that is viable, that is sensible, that is reasonable, futuristic, understanding, caring, and possesses the leadership to transform Dominica into a better place.”
He believes that presenting oneself as a candidate or a player in the political space in Dominica, particularly opposition politics, takes a lot.
“It takes sacrifice and that includes financial sacrifice, physical sacrifice, spiritual sacrifice to name a few,” he stated. “It would make more sense for us to co-exist in a group that is cohesive.”
He said when different parties come together there will be different opinions, however, he believes consensus is important.
“ If we come together we make strategic decisions,” he stated. “First and foremost we need to look at the political map in Dominica, the economic map in Dominica, and analyze how we can possibly win the next general election.”
Meanwhile, Francis revealed that he has been in communication with Political Leader of the UWP Dr. Thomson Fontaine.
“ I have not met the leader of the United Workers Party in an official capacity,” he explained. “I am in communication with the leader of the United Workers Party [and] our conversations are in the direction of Dominica.”
In November 2021, when Francis was Deputy Leader of the UWP, the decision was made to suspend him in the wake of a public disclosure of utterances made by him in a private conversation gone viral.
In October 2021, during a private discussion, Francis was recorded without consent, according to him, and the information was then disseminated in the public domain.
In the conversation, the former deputy political leader heavily criticized and blamed members of his party for his political demise because he believed that his growing popularity was seen as a threat.
He further accused some of his colleagues of being the “culprits of his public humiliation”.
Francis was arrested and charged in an alleged sexual assault matter in 2016. The matter has since been discontinued.
The charge was never read to him since his lawyers had filed a judicial review. He said there were illegalities, irregularities, falsifications, and concoctions in the investigation process.
Dominica’s political spectrum currently includes the reigning Dominica Labour Party (DLP) established in 1955, the second oldest Dominica Freedom Party (DFP) founded in 1968, followed by the United Workers Party (UWP) in 1988. Additionally, the Alternative Peoples’ Party (APP) and Team Unity Dominica (TUD) were established in 2019 and 2022, respectively.

Joshua reminds of a leopard that cannot change its spots. I am a forgiving person. However, this man’s character is tarnished not with just one or two scandals but multiple. Imagine a man with such a checkered past which is pregnant with hideous, unethical, immoral and dishonorable behaviour becoming the prime minister of the country. The country doesn’t need a perfect substitute for Roosevelt dressed up in disguise.
So then why didnt you stay with the UWP instead? All of you people in Dominica are beginning to sicken me. 99% of so called politicians and aspiring politicians are in it for their own personal gain and enrichment. It is interesting that this man is talking about the need for unity among the political parties in Dominica. But does party hopping suggest a desire to concretise views or does it show a more sinister side? To many it would appear that a desire to be seen an heard in the capacity of leadership may be the driving desire.
Who will forget the avarice displayed as a potential leader of the UWP, this very man attempted to sew seeds of discord so that he could rise to the helm, a type of divide and rule phenomenon. Now he is striving to be the leader of the APP, he is trying to rise to that level by being the voice of this infantile group.
How does one reconcile his obvious party hopping and desired visibility and his current call for unity. The stench is nauseating, Joshua have a bit more respect for the intelligence of the Dominican people.

I will never understand how the opposition parties keep saying that Skerrit is very corrupt and yet are not willing to come together as one party to get him out. I guess everybody wants to be king.

For reasons unknown, for a friend and colleague who stoutly defended him during his times of peril, he tried his best to malign and sully Mr. Lennox Linton’s unblemished reputation. He has never apologised for this deplorable act of betrayal even when given an open opportunity to do so.
