Organisers of the Opening of Carnival in the community of Mahaut set for this Sunday, February 4, 2024, are promising patrons and carnival lovers, a spectacular and fun-filled entertainment package to usher in carnival [on the] west coast.
The national spotlight will fall on the lively community of Mahaut, with thousands of carnival revelers from across the country expected to descend on the village for an evening of great entertainment and the joy and spirit of the Dominica carnival experience for the 2024 season.
Mahaut, known for its lively and riveting carnival culture, will be adding to the flavor of the Real Mas, with infectious music, traditional masquerade forms, and passionate revelers in what is expected to be one of the highlights of the 2024 Mas Domnik’s season.
Organisers of the Mahaut Carnival Opening 2024, one of several to take place as a prelude to the celebrations of the Real Mas on Monday 12th and Tuesday 13th February are setting the stage for an unforgettable and highly entertaining Opening. The main highlights of the Mahaut Opening of Carnival 2024 will include the infectious rhythms of two of Dominica’s most recognizable and dynamic bands, the TK International (TK) and Signal Band, along with DJ Rio of
Mahaut, the Mahaut Bouyon Lapo Kabwit Band, Next Generation Band, Sakis, and a full complement of local masquerade bands and carnival enthusiasts.
The parade of participating groups and individual masqueraders will begin from 3:00 p.m. starting from the famous Lab next to the St. Paul’s Credit Union Building and down to Zaman Park in lower Belfast. Revelers are expected to be on the parade route to be accompanied firstly by DJ RIO, then by Signal Band, and finally, jamming to the powerful sound of TK International.
The Mahaut Carnival Opening forms part of carnival celebrations in that community, with activities expected on Jourvert and “jump-up” on both Carnival Monday and Tuesday. Organisers are hoping for a peaceful and incident-free carnival celebration and for the fullest participation of villagers and others in the 2024 carnival season.
The 2024 Mahaut Carnival celebrations are organized by a team of local carnival enthusiasts, the Mahaut Jimmit Tarreau Village Council, and with the support and primary sponsorship by the Parliamentary Representative for the Mahaut Constituency, Hon Cassanni Laville. Other sponsors include: PH Williams, Redi Mix, Josephine Gabriel and Co. Ltd ,Convenience Plus, and Belfast Estate.
Carnival will soon be something of the past. It’s already on the down slope. With all of these carnival “promotions” taking place around the country is a clear indication of the lack of interest that is being sensed by the promoters.
In my youthful days we didn’t need and have any type of promotions and Carnival was Carnival then. It was celebrated with more enthusiastic than Christmas. Now, carnival promotions are “Nasty Business.” Degrading songs about the same women who themselves are in the “Nasty Business.” We used to have school teachers, nurses, priests, doctors and prominent people in Carnival, but not anymore. Carnival celebration is now on the decline. It’s tasteless and shameful. Blewwww. I saw the ductor Henderson dancing to a calypso song about “Dominica I’ll always come back to you” or something so. And as soon as the song ended you could see Henderson running making his way through the crowd to a waiting vehicle and he was gone. How many noticed that? Hypocrisy.
Why waste money on 5 openings then cry brokes and beg sponsors to donate money when you can just do one opening and thats it. We are wasting money doing 5 openings. Roseau, Portsmouth, St. Joe, Grandbay, Mahaut. makes no sense to me. If villages want to do their own opening and pay for it themself then fine. but i dont see the sense in having more than one.
