Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has confirmed the permanent appointments of 125 teachers.
“So far for the year 2025, we have confirmed 125 teachers permanently, and there are still several requests before the public service commission for consideration,” Skerrit revealed during a recent press conference. delay as ‘unfait’
“I think where the public officers and public service commission need to pay attention to is the time it takes for a letter to get to the employee. It takes too long.”
He continued, “Someone came to me and inquired about their appointment, and when I checked, a decision had been taken for that person’s appointment in April…and I think that, that’s a long time.”
The Prime Minister argued that at least a word should be sent out to inform the teacher about the decision made.
“So we need to improve our communication…,” he remarked. “We need to work on that.”
Furthermore, he revealed that apart from the group of 125, more teachers will receive permanent appointments.
Meanwhile, Skerrit said his government is concerned about public officers being in acting/temporary positions for too long.
“The idea of giving somebody six months, six months, six months…for 8 years or 5 years is not fair,” he remarked. “And it almost borders on an injustice where that position is vacant.”
He went on to state that sometimes, there are challenges where people are on study leave or seconded “so this is why cabinet has deliberated on this matter and taken a very clear position on the secondment issue. There must be a limit.”
Defined as being assigned to work in a different department for a certain period of time, Skerrit explained: “Sometimes you cut somebody’s secondment and the person believes that you have an issue with them.”
“But you cannot appoint people below who are acting if that person continues to be seconded in a senior position.”
Skerrit added, “So the secondment affects the permanent appointment of many people.”
Skerrit is an extremely wicked human being. Why have a teacher working for so long 16years, 17 years, 20 years etc, and not appointed? If the person can’t do the job ask him to leave, but you can have someone working so long with no appointment. It’s deliberate wickedness.
But he expects praises for that. Skerrit i should have been a journalist.

Mr. Prime Minister, it is not just teachers. You are the reason that nowadays so many civil servants are not permanent in post but acting. From teachers to policemen to firemen to medical staff, everyone is on NEP or acting! And that is why nothing can get done properly, because you have too many Labourats squarepegs in round holes, and that begins with you. You have no idea how to govern a country and build an economy, after twenty plus years in government. What you have been best at is enriching yourself and consistently lying to the people! When did you say that you would step down? You cried and told us how much you love Dominica so give you up to July 2025! You still there? Liar!

Let’s get it real! These appointments are not favours they were justly earned. Teachers should be fully compensated for the years they have worked after their appointments were due. The Teacher’s Union should stage a sit-in or a work stoppage until all teachers who should be appointed to the civil service receive their instrument of appointment.

No it has not been good. Are you mad/crazy? So you had teachers demotivated 12yrs, 13yrs, up to 16yrs not doing their best in the classroom, because they were working with no assurance that they would reap the benefit of their hard work later in life, and you felt it is good that they just got appointed? Why not 10years ago? Do you know the thousands of students this must have affected?
