The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) recently provided a contribution to the Ministry of Health, Wellness, and Social Services (MOHWSS) in Dominica, consisting of a 40-inch Vizio Smart TV and a mobile stand. According to a health ministry media release, the donation aims to bolster health education, raise public awareness, and support outreach initiatives across the island. It also stated that the gesture underscores PAHO’s ongoing commitment to bringing vital health information directly into communities.

“The official handover took place on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, with Nicole Slack-Liburd, PAHO Country Programme Specialist, presenting the donation to Dr. Kyra Paul-L’Homme, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Wellness and Social Services. Also in attendance was Mignon Rolle-Shillingford, Coordinator of the Health Promotion Unit,” shared the release.

Slack-Liburd emphasized the significance of community-centered healthcare, stating, “A core principle of the primary healthcare approach is meeting people where they are.”

“The inclusion of a mobile cart ensures that this device can be used not only at health facilities but also at various locations in communities across Dominica,” she continued.

According to Slack-Liburd, the donation will directly support the Ministry’s Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) and other public health initiatives.

Furthermore, the statement pointed out PAHO’s ongoing support for Vaccination Week in the Americas (VWA) 2025. This support includes the distribution of electronic and printed educational materials, as well as assistance in extending vaccination service hours at the Fond Cole Health Centre and surrounding communities.

The supplied equipment will enable health professionals to display educational content, health messages, and awareness videos during community outreach events, school visits, and health fairs,  aiming to foster better health literacy and engagement.

Expressing appreciation, Dr. Paul-L’Homme acknowledged PAHO’s steadfast partnership and assistance in advancing health promotion efforts across Dominica. She highlighted that the donation would significantly enhance the Ministry’s capacity to deliver engaging, effective, and accessible health education to all citizens.

PAHO’s collaboration with the government remains focused on fostering healthier communities through innovative approaches, improved accessibility, and empowerment.
