Parl Rep says work ongoing to compensate displaced Wesley residents, urges young people to apply for prime property

Fidel Grant

Parliamentary Representative of the Wesley Constituency, Fidel Grant has announced that several homeowners in Wesley have received their certificate of titles. Some residents of Wesley have been displaced due to the construction of the long-awaited international airport.

According to Grant, the government has contributed 31 “lovely homes” at Joe Burton for those residents who will be relocated.

“A number of homeowners have received their certificate of title,” he said. “The Attorney [General’s] Chambers have assured me that they are working assiduously to complete the balance of these titles.”

He said within the next few weeks the government will commence installation of lights and beautification at Joe Burton.

“We are also on schedule to construct 12 one-bedroom apartments to assist with the relocation of persons at Joe Burton,” Grant stated.

He said within the past two years the Government of Dominica has paid in excess of 35 million dollars in compensation for home and other property owners.

“This is at least 80 percent of the total homeowners to be compensated,” he said.

Furthermore, Grant indicated that in recent months he has been receiving calls from potential investors.

“They are  looking to purchase land – three and five acres upwards –  for the development of supermarkets, boutique, hotel, tour operations just to name a few,” he explained.

He assured the young people of Wesley that they will be given priority in owning a piece of Wesley.

“We have a total of 140 lots at Joe Burton,” he stated. “Recently I was able to secure approval and allocation of 10 lots for young persons within the constituency of Wesley. I urge the young people to apply for these residential lots. They are in a prime location and are being sold at very concessionary rates.”

The one billion dollar contract for the much anticipated International Airport Project was signed between the Government of Dominica and Montreal Management Consultant Establishment (MMCE) on June 9, 2021, signaling the official commencement.

Let me clarify this: most of the older generation in Wesley, now departed bought their land from the British land owners after the abolition of slavery. And that dates back to the era when Dominica was in (part) of the Leeward islands.
The land was in most cases handed down to their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
If one acquired something almost a hundred years ago, or over a hundred years ago, and a receipt or title deed was issued, even the parchment paper they used then would have decayed my now!
So, I think it’s simply thievery to take people property away refusing to pay them, nevertheless, Chinese have smoked people out of their homes with Roosevelt has not paid for, yet Chinese took over the people place, living in them!
Fidel, I feel sorry for you, you are less than half of a man corrupted worse than that damn thi.. Roosevelt.

“most of the older generation in Wesley, now departed bought their land from the British land owners after the abolition of slavery”

Slavery was abolished 191 years ago. For them to have “bought their land from the British land owners”, they would have to be about 210 years old.

Francisco, how 200+ year olds do you know? Who are these “most of the older generation” from Wesley you’re referring to that’s 200+ years old? I would like to meet them.

They’re dead. I’m sure land is the least of their worries.

Here he go again running off his mouth, as if people don’t know. If I was not from Wesley, his false fallacy! I don’t know any place in Wesley, where buildings, and land are so desirable and expensive in any area that can be classified as “prime” property.
What I do know is that any choice land in the village, you Fidel sat as the puppet you are and allowed Roosevelt to confiscate people’s land that has been in their family way back when Dominica, was in the Leeward island, and simply handed their choice property to Chinese.
Fidel, rather than running off your mouth, trying to appear to be what you are not, perhaps rather than helping Roosevelt to deny payment for their confiscated land which their grandparents owned since Dominica was a Leeward, papers are long lost, you should demanded Roosevelt pay the people for their confiscated property!
You need to ensure that the recipients of house and land given to Wesley people don’t remain Roosevelt property, give them their titles…

    All this particular Roosevelt’s poodle has to offer to the nation and his constituency are disinformation; sweet lies; bogus, succulent promises;

He is a former agriculture minister who failed in that portfolio spectacularly who is good at nothing positive. His words always ring hollow.

These people are gangsters in jacket and tie. Don’t be fooled. Their promises are like vapour.

What is taking the corrupt regime of infidels so long to compensate the victim for the wanton destruction of their homes. It is not only their homes were destroyed but their businesses. Shouldn’t they be made whole for the loss of their bread and butter (income)?

This destruction of long time family dwelling places was not necessary. These homes had sentimental value. Uprooted the people from their cribs to score political points. Damn insensitive and shameful!
