After what he said was some deliberate introspection on his part, Pastor Randy Rodney has made a decision to offer himself for political office under the umbrella of the United Workers Party (UWP).
He made the remarks recently during a program on Q-95 Radio.
“After prayerful reflection, thoughtful consultation, and honest searching of my convictions, I have made a decision. One that I believe is not about ambition, but about assignment. Not about position, but about purpose. And that decision is that I offer myself for political office, because I believe our nation needs leadership rooted in servanthood and guided by a genuine mandate to lift people,” he said.
Rodney emphasized that he is stepping forward because he believes the nation is standing at a crossroads.
“We are facing challenges that require not just policymakers, but servant leaders,” he remarked. “Not just representatives, but individuals who understand the moral weight of stewardship. So, ladies and gentlemen, my assignment, my mandate is simple. It’s to serve with integrity, to lead with transparency and to champion the well-being of every citizen, regardless of class, community, religion, or background.”
He continued, “From the very beginning, I have understood leadership to be a call to serve.”
According to him, true leadership is not built on titles, applause, or personal elevation. It is built on sacrifice, accountability, and a willingness to labor where others may overlook.
“Quite honestly, I have seen the struggles of our communities, I have listened to the concerns of our youth, our families, our workers, our elders,” Rodney stated. “And ladies and gentlemen, I cannot simply observe. I can’t simply watch from the side when I know that I have the capacity, the compassion, and the conviction to make a difference.”
Furthermore, he went on to add that this decision is not made lightly, “It is one born out of a burden, a burden to see justice strengthened, opportunities expanded, and unity restored.”
He added, “In other words, we have to stop as a nation fighting each other, biting each other, simply because we have differences of opinions.”
Rodney believes that differences of opinion should never lead Dominicans into a fight, “but we are fighting because there are forces and spirits that are propelling that fight and reducing the productivity of our nation.”
Moreover, Rodney promised to listen to the concerns of Dominicans and to act.
“Certainly, I’m not perfect, and I do not promise perfection. I promise presence, I promise to listen, and I promise to act,” he noted. “And you ask how I plan to do that? Well, I have decided to do that through the aegis of the United Workers’ Party. And why the United Workers’ Party? Because I believe in the motto of the party.”
He pointed out that the people come first, “people before party, people before things, people before self-aggrandizement.”
He is of the view that the constitution of the UWP affords one the maintenance of rules and practices that intend to keep leaders honest and accountable.
“The constitution of the United Workers Party does not allow for a dictatorial leader to remain in office for any length of time because they are answerable to the people,” Rodney stated. “In a democracy–and gentlemen–the leaders must be accountable and answerable to the people.”
He continued, “We are living at a time where it is quite apparent that our leader is not answerable to anybody but himself, not even our ministers and our parliamentary representatives seem to be accountable to the people. It is United Workers Party because the level and the standard of discourse and the balance between the people, their talent, their skill, and the exercise of integrity and honesty is what attracted me there.”
Rodney claims that this is a decision borne out of a burden to see the lives of the people of Dominica change for the better, so that there is a reduction in partisan politics and cronyism in order to get to the place where the bread and butter issues of the average Dominican person is addressed, not fooled, “ by promising them some money or even a house that they don’t own, but that their interests are taken into consideration seriously.”
“So that every person and every family can build a future for themselves and their family as it used to happen in days and years gone by,” he asserted.
He leveraged that for almost two decades, there has been impoverishment, calculated decisions to take bread away from people, and calculated decisions to ensure that most of the money of the state is either in the pockets of a few in Dominica, or mostly in the pockets of some outside of Dominica.
“I give myself a service in that regard, and I look forward to working with every one of you for the good of the lovely Commonwealth of Dominica,” Rodney stated. “I look forward to the delegates’ conference next Sunday, and I am hopeful that the people of Dominica, the delegates of the United Workers’ Party, will think again and elect leadership with a servant heart, with compassion, and with a burden for people.”
The Marigot Workers Party is too sort to use Pastor Randy to try to unseat Dr Fontaine, a world renowned economist.
As for Pastor Randy, I thought he said on q95 last week that he was a councilor but seems like he was only using the gifts that he said he has to do the bidding Lennox them. Pas Randy just confirmed that he has been and still is a big part of the problem that hurting the party and as a result I stopped listening to Randy8 program on Q95 from the day of his foolish announcement.
I cannot believe a party with so many University grads is so damb blind to not see that our world and politics has changed and nobody is going to vote for a pastor that is against everything and every civil rights people. Even religious people can’t stand the man.
My advice to The Marigot party is, if they want to remain in opposition the best thing to do is listen to the Marigot voices and make Pastor Randy leader so he could continue to open his loud voice of condemnation on every…

If Pastor Randy is serious about what he said above he probably should stop causing more division by challenging Dr Fontaine who has never gotten a chance to lead our party into a general election and instead he should challenge Hector John as the deputy leader, who seems to be there just to try to bring Thompson down like Judas did to Jesus. I really like spirit of pastor Randy and what he stands for but politics, even more than religion is about building hedge instead of walls. There are over 6,000 people benefitting from the FREE housing programme,more that 5,000 benefitting from NEP,more than 3,000 benefitting from the $300 monthly including Randy Rodney father Robertson Cabwit Rodney.Hundreds are benefitting from the school bus service,before Skerrit none of those things were in place.Skerrit has made more than 15,000 financially BETTER,Employment at the airport,geothermal marina and cable car,more police,nurses,teachers and fire officers employed.UWP including Randy Rodney are against those development,and the people know that.All wash you foot and come can come,UWP cannot win an election in Dominica.
Another uwp blunder that will uselessly further divide the party like the boldness of pastor Randy and he probably has the talent to be a good leader if they proceeded with wisdom, unity and caution. Unfortunately all I am seeing is the a repeat of the same old strategy of bitterness and and strife that started since in the days of TimTim when the heads of the party went all out to ensure he was not the successor of Edo. Let me predicate my comments by stating clearly that I am not a supporter of the UWP. However, as an observer, I believe the party does need new leadership. Thompson Fountain has been there in excess of three years, and I am yet to hear a single prospective candidate. In our political system the prime minister has the authority to call elections at any time. If he calls it for January, no one knows who is contesting what seat. Elections are a game of visibility and appealing to people, two things you can’t achieve with hidden candidates. People need to know who their prospective candidates are so they can get to know, understand, and work with them. One single Thompson going around with less than five men can’t take you guys into government. Inasmuch as the country needs change, you all are not presenting a viable alternative. The last time you did was in 2014, and you all did very well and won six seats.

Seems like UWP needs a pastor to lead us. I am a poto UWP but this time it’s clear that UWP has lost it to bring in a pastor and a very controversial pastor to challenge a world renowned accountant for leadership of the party. This just shows how divided the party is and somehow always seems to be looking to destabilize the party .
How long will it take the party to realize that they cannot win an election just with UWP votes and need to get some Laborites to vote for them? That said, who is better able to bring in Laborites between Dr Fontaine and pastor Randy. I don’t trust pastors but I’m more than willing to put some confidence in Pastor Rodney to deliver for the people. He has the drive, vigour, integrity, intelligence, courage, vision to lead not only the UWP but the country.
Dr. Thomson Fontaine lacks the zeal and zest to inspire and motivate. He acts as though he is perpetually ‘under the weather’.On the other hand, Pastor Rodney is articulate, industrious and fired up.
If UWP executive and its supporters don’t want to remain in opposition permanently, it’s time to try something new. Pastor Rodney is a proven activist for the people. Pastor Rodney deserves our collective support. He is always willing to agitate for the good and well-being of the ordinary man, woman and child.
