Peace and safety of citizens are in focus for Carnival and beyond, says PM

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has stated that his government will review measures and embark on new actions to ensure total peace in the country.

He made the announcement while addressing a press conference this week.

Dominica has reported its first suspected homicide for the year and a robbery at Mero which left one man nursing a gunshot wound at the Dominica China Friendship Hospital (DCFH).

“As far as this administration is concerned we will review measures and embark on new actions to ensure total peace and safety in our country,” he said.

Skerrit continued, “Unfortunately our island has seen some tragic domestic and public incidents in recent times which [have] put focus on the peace and security of the nation.”

According to the Prime Minister, these incidents highlight the fragility of a democratic society where members of society have to observe decency and respect in dealing with each other.

“Especially with this emerging period of Carnival where our communities are coming together to enjoy this unique festival, there might be a few who may be inclined to use this period of revelry for acts of violence,” he remarked. “And to otherwise instill a level of fear in society.”

The Prime Minister declared that there would be a policy of “zero tolerance for any decadent behavior in our country.”

He added that the CDPF will show zero tolerance for acts of violence related to events surrounding Carnival.

“In turn, any event or band which cannot maintain an atmosphere of peace and civility will be stopped and curtailed where there is tangible threat to any citizen on our island,” he warned.

He made it clear that organizers of all events are responsible for ensuring that security for said events is in place and that patrons are safe.

Skerrit went on to state with regard to anyone found with unlicensed firearms or any weaponry deemed unsafe or dangerous, “we will have them confiscated and will be detained under the laws of the Commonwealth of Dominica where applicable.”

“No exceptions will be made, Carnival or no Carnival,” he warned.

He said there will be increased patrols and random searches of anyone exhibiting suspicious behavior, “to further emphasize our zero-tolerance approach.”

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister also addressed the issue of road safety in Dominica.

Road safety is an integral part of being able to live in a safe environment,” he said. “In the last few months however, we have seen far too many incidents and too many of our drivers and bikers are using our roads without care and attention, and with little regard for their own safety and that of others.”

He pointed out that unnecessary speeding and driving under the influence of substances have been identified as key components of the increase.

“In a few cases, there are also [situations] where some vehicles are just not road worthy and their very use is in violation of some of our traffic regulations,” Skerrit explained.

He said the police will increase its monitoring in that regard and will seek to clamp down on speeders, “and in this Carnival period, especially on people who will insist on drinking and driving.”

“As a people, we need to appeal to each one of us who use our roads, especially our young men to exercise more caution and to show more care and respect to everyone,” Prime Minister Skerrit stated.

Apparently feller wasnt at the opening of Carnival man? Right in front of the police inspector inside the stadium a man got stabbed in the neck. Dominicans have no regard for life. what you talking about prime minister? you might as well focus on them fixing the roads around your mansions in Morne Daniel for you and the rest of the residents in the area you have inconvenienced. You will have better results there.

Skerrit said “As far as this administration is concerned we will review measures and embark on new actions to ensure total peace and safety in our country.” Bearing in mind that Skerrit has been the villain of the peace in the last 20 years, this is rich! You all see now what kind of a PM you got. He says things and does exactly the opposite or vice versa.

Roosevelt is not part of the solution. Sad to say, he’s part of the problem. What he has masquerading as the police service is literally his personal militia that serves at his bequest.

The ‘law men’ are poorly trained, inadequately resourced, and badly led by an inept buffoon. How should any citizen put his/her trust and confidence in an organisation which kills unarmed residents in its custody?

Roosevelt needs a 180° attitude change if things are to be changed in Dominica for the betterment of the people.

Only his rabid hoodlums care about his exhortations. The man doesn’t practise what he preaches.

He says things to get favourable publicity from his local darling media houses and the tone deaf regional media.

If he want us to take him seriously and respect him, he has to put in action whatever he advises the people to do. Action, not words, is the foundational key to all success.

Just look at the expression of deceit, on the man’s face..Why does he look so guilty and afraid? My question to this misleader called Skerrit is what has he done to arrest, or even try to arrest lawlessness of all sorts on island for about 18 years.. NOTHING!!! EXAMPLE
    the kidnapping of Choksi
the crimes committed by those that are called snipers, navy seals and soldiers of Roseau
the alleged death of baby Sarah
those who did not arrest the owners of the guns in the blue barrel at the port
those who were the owners of the $$$$ found at Terre Plate in the north
those who implicated Lennox Linton in a scheme to make public liar Skerrit confidential IPO information.
those who called for the disappearance of Lennox Linton..
those who incited people at BellevueChopin to “dash” hot water on UWpites
This liar just babbles from both sides of his mouth. Trickery, deceit and deception will be his most damning legacy.
    LIAR!!!
    WHO BELIEVES YOU???
