Peaking at the right time. That is how West Indies Women’s new ball bowler Shakera Selman described her career after an impressive performance in the first T20 International against England on Monday night at the Derby County Ground. The experienced seam bowler secured 3-26 from her four overs under lights – the second-best figures of her career – following the 3-24 against New Zealand at Intercargil in March, 2014.
With a career spanning 12 years, Shakera notes that an improvement in her patience, and working extra hard on mental skills to bolster her confidence has led to a resurgence in her international career.
She said: “I think I am actually peaking now at this later stage… I’m really happy with the returns and the hardwork is finally paying off.”
WI women cricket team should be disbanded. That T20 was a disgrace. In a 3 over span these ladies dropped 5 catches and had miss fields that resulted in multiple boundaries. And what did they do when they messed up? Laugh. Like its a joke. A charity game.
But I guess they are right. Spending money on women cricket is a joke- a form of charity.
@ Ti Garcon, The WI women got a raw deal with the timing of this tour. It is almost autumn in the UK and already very cold. In comparison, The men got a mid summer tour which was very warm but did not fare very well, as well. Give the women a break. It was brave of them agreeing to do that tour in the midst of a global pandemic which is currently hitting the UK very hard. I suppose they are more preoccupied with staying safe than winning games.
