Peltier suggests gov’t scholarships in honor of ‘media-friendly’ Rosie Douglas

Popular talk show host and radio personality, Matthias “Matt” Peltier Jr., is urging the ruling Dominica Labour Party (DLP) to provide a scholarship, every three years, to a local media worker in memory of the late Roosevelt ‘Rosie’ Douglas.

He made the call during the annual Roosevelt ‘Rosie’ Douglas Memorial Lecture, held at the State House Conference Centre on Thursday.

“I will ask the government of Dominica to set up a scholarship in his honor. Every three years, so a young media person can get a scholarship in his honor,” he said. “And the second request I would have is to pass a bill, a freedom of information bill, so we can have more access to information in Dominica.”

Peltier continued, “I think that is very, very necessary.”

According to him, the late Rosie Douglas had a close relationship with the Dominican media.

“I have been in the media for over 30 years. I’ve never met another prime minister that was so close to the press,” he Peltier. “You had access to him 24-7. Doesn’t matter what time you call, he might be in the bathroom, he would tell you to hold on then he will return your call.”

Peltier added, “Anytime. Monday to Sunday.”

Rosie Douglas died on October 1, 2000, just eight months after being elected Prime Minister following the national elections held on January 31.

Who is this Matt Peltier? I hope is not the media whore and puppet who cost Q95 more than $300,000 in lawsuits. This guy has to step in line like a lapD to do the bidding of his blue masters, which is to say nothing good about Dominica and the government. The man is programmed, when BLESSINGS talked about the missing $60,000 from CCM Matt was programmed to put a donkey bridle in his mouth. The guy is such a big JACK,talking about government selling passports, the DONK does not know books are made by CBN in Canada and ALL passports are made and recorded by the immigration department in Roseau. For government to sell passports they have to be given to them by the police at the immigration department. The media whore is accusing the police of making passports for criminals, then giving them to government to sell to the criminals. But again step in line dig up dirt, call Rejock or you do not have a job,Mr puppet. If the media whore does not do as he is told by his masters he will be 🔥ed.

I agree with both suggestions by Mr. Peltier. The media is the most influential entity in society. A vibrant media adds positively to the health of democracy. Conversely, in any country where the media is inactive or biased to the incumbent administration democracy dies and corruption, decadence and u productivity flourish.

Therefore, it is imperative that we have well trained journalists. Investigative journalism is sadly lacking in Dominica. Corrupt practices by those in power go unreported. Corrupt has become the norm rather than the abnormal.

The massive and unbridled corruption due to lack of probing investigation of the Roosevelt-led amoral regime has underdeveloped Dominica.

Hot debate. What do you think? Thumb up 5 Thumb down 5

You always rant about Dominica needs well-trained Investigative journalist, ok. You write well with a good command of the English language, good vocabulary, you have the basics, and yes the time, why don’t you get out of this forum with your chronic behaviour of criticism, calling people names, making allegation and innuendoes, use your skills and become a bona-fide investigative Journalist, find the evidence of what you have been echoing on this forum, there is room for you. Matt did it, Carlisle Jno Baptiste did, starting Nature Isle news and let us not forget Linton, what is stopping you.

I have always said, you are a Joker and should not be taken seriously, what you are doing does nothing to the Government, think about it, they do not care what you write. You have a right to support what ever Government you want and express your opinion, but altering facts as though they do not exist is not beneficial to what you are trying to achieve.

Ibo is way too selfish and lacking in character, he would rather blame others and scream at them to do good rather than do anything of substance himself. Sacrifice might be in his vocabulary but not in his daily practice.

This country and the world is too full of people like him that are jealous, pretentious, egotistical and ultimately dishonest people that refuse to see the problem in their own behavior and look for easy targets (they are cowards) to attack to validate themselves.

The only thing they are kind of effective at is pretending and grandstanding but they are terrible at doing any actual good – they and people like them are the root cause of virtually everything they complain about.

Excellent suggestion but sadly, will not materialize . This régime loves secrecy too much. Just have to hear and observe how its “furher ” reacts when faced with a question à la Stephen Fahquar ” HARDTALK “.

Lol, What a superficial, response, to an excellent suggestion you endorse, suggesting This régime loves secrecy too much. When you use the word”furher” the German word meaning leader used to describe the PM, wow, what a fanciful imagination, such silliness.
