Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit is scheduled to have discussions with Marco Rubio, the U.S. Secretary of State, in Washington D.C. on Tuesday, May 6, 2025.

A press release from the Office of the Prime Minister said that Prime Minister Skerrit is participating in this significant gathering alongside other heads of government representing the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) and The Bahamas. The purpose of this meeting is to foster mutual interests and strengthen collaborative efforts between the United States and the Caribbean area, according to the release.

Key topics anticipated to be addressed during the discussions include ensuring security across the region, promoting economic progress, and providing assistance for long-term development in island nations with small populations.

Dr. Vince Henderson, who holds the position of Minister for Foreign Affairs, International Business, Trade and Energy, is also present at the meeting.

The Bahamas has also been invited to participate in the engagement.

The OECS heads delegation is being led by the Chairman of OECS Authority and Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Phillip J. Pierre.

The meeting will concentrate on preserving and strengthening the relationship between the OECS and the United States, as both sides explore key issues and opportunities for deeper cooperation.

Discussions will focus on:

  • Economic cooperation
  • Migration issues
  • Security cooperation
  • The role and contribution of Caribbean nationals in the U.S. diaspora
  • The Cuban Medical Programme

This diplomatic engagement is part of the OECS Authority’s broader mandate to promote the collective interests of its Member States and ensure that the voices of small island developing states continue to be represented at the highest levels.

While Prime Minister Skerrit is away from Dominica, Dr. Irving McIntyre, the Minister responsible for Finance, Economic Development, Climate Resilience, and Social Security, is currently serving as acting Prime Minister.

It’s great to see these discussions happening! Regional security, economic growth, and sustainable development are so vital for these island nations. Hopefully, this meeting will lead to concrete actions and support. Thinking about island life makes me almost want to quit everything and just go build race cars or something… maybe even get into Drift Hunters in my spare time! Seriously though, I hope the meeting goes well and benefits the OECS and The Bahamas.

If the toilet paper investors had waited the 10+ years maybe they would have resumed manufacturing locally so we could have at least that to dangle at Marco for trade. Oh well, another 25 years to reset.

@ Brain Damage, thought you and the propagandists in the UWP said that Skeritt couldn’t enter the US. He is now in Washington and I am anxiously following Fox, CNN, CBS, BBC, MSNBC, Aljezeera, as a matter of fact I am following all the major news networks as I don’t want to miss this breaking news of the arrest and detention of Roosevelt Skeritt. I guess bail will be set at $1.2 billion…

Your name speaks for itself. No one can stop reggae. You are one of those who said He could not enter the US. He is proving he can. Be careful what you ask for. Stop your hate and educate yourself.
