Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit extends congratulations to His Excellency Dr. Irfaan Ali and the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) of Guyana, as well as the Honourable Dr. Andrew Holness and the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), on being returned to office following their respective national elections.

Skerrit said in a Facebook post on Thursday that the victories of both leaders at the polls reflect the trust that the people of Guyana and Jamaica have placed in their leadership and plans for their continued advancement.

“Dominica values deeply, the bonds of friendship and cooperation which unite our countries within the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). We look forward to working together to further strengthen regional integration and promote the shared aspirations of our peoples,” he said.

He continued, “Please accept my very best wishes for your continued success as you lead your nations into a new term of progress and development.”

Guyanese President Ali has claimed a second five-year term in office following Monday’s general election.

His party secured about 242,000 votes at the polls, allowing the PPP to claim majority seats in 8 of the 10 districts.

Meanwhile, news from msn.com indicated that Prime Minister Holness secured a third term in office, following preliminary results in Jamaica’s general election.

The results were released on Thursday (September 4), declaring the Jamaica Labour Party victorious.

The party won 34 seats and the opposition PNP, 29, in the previous day’s vote.
