PM Skerrit lauds Bahamian leader Phillip Davis’s historic re-election

Hon. Philip Davis

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has issued congratulations to the Bahamas’ Prime Minister Philip Davis on his victory in the general elections held on Tuesday.

”On behalf of the Government and people of Dominica, I convey best wishes for the continued progress and prosperity of the people of The Bahamas,” Skerrit said in a social media statement.

He continued, “His reelection comes at an important time for our region.”

Skerrit said he looks forward to continued engagement and cooperation, “between our countries in pursuit of shared regional goals and sustainable development for our peoples.”

Meanwhile, according to an article on  bahamaspress.com, this significant triumph not only marks a momentous occasion for Davis but also makes him the first Bahamian leader to achieve a second consecutive term in nearly three decades.

“This victory breaks a long-standing tradition in the Bahamas, where voters have typically opted to unseat the incumbent government every five years,” the article said.

Furthermore, it explained that the path to this re-election was paved by a snap election, which Davis called on April 8, directly dissolving Parliament ahead of its scheduled end.

“This strategic move indicates a major shift in the country’s contemporary political landscape, suggesting that the PLP has found a way to re-engage the electorate and effectively showcase its achievements,” the article claimed.

Before posting your bs as usual,go on the ground and see what Skerrit and Labour have done for the PEOPLE.More that 6,000 have benefitted financially from free houses and the housing revolution.More than 5,000 have benefitted financially from the NEP and yes we care programmes.More than 3,000 senior citizens have benefitted financially from the $300 monthly programme.Thousands have benefitted financially from the free school bus service, free school books and free uniform. Those things were not there before Skerrit and the Labour party.Skerrit brought Clear harbor to Dominica.

If the opposition here behaved like wise men and women we stood a very good chance to join the people of St Vincent and Trinidad and unseat Skerrit, even if Thompson is very weak and stubborn. Instead we find ourselves helping to bring down Thompson rather than pushing him. Our fathers and brothers and sisters see it more profitable to help destroy Thompson than to put their all to help the thousands of us that gave our all to stand with them when they were leaders. They are behaving like children and not seeing that it’s not Thompson they hurting but supporters of the UWP They are all behaving like the story of the foolish man that burned his house to catch a rat and at the end he lost his house but the rat still escaped. Skerrit was right when he referred to them as “Traitors “ because look how they have betrayed us and aligning with the same Skerrit. Only traitors behave like these people are behaving and I really mean on both sides, meaning Thompson side as well Linton’s

I don’t blame Skerrit because all of the incumbents in the region are “birds of the same feathers” and they want their other corrupt team mates to help protect them.
The captain of the very corrupt incumbent is Roosevelt Skerrit and we are just probably weeks away from hearing him announce another corrupt general election which he will win even before a vote is counted simply because he has corrupted the election process just as he has corrupted everything on island . Besides he has successfully made us broke and dependent on him, while he has corruptly enriched himself and his friends.
The opposition is broke & divided to the point that they forget the supporters of the party that have gone through hell for party sake. Man I remember when Skerrit told his supporters to call members of the then opposition “traitors “ and called them by name. We supporters took issue with that but today as we look at the state of the opposition maybe Skerrit was damn right as shown by their behavior

@ I BO, while I agree with you that Dr Fontaine is unxhcharismatic, lethargic, uninsiring and let me also add he is not a people’s person like his predecessor , i also want to add that Edison James is the opposite yet, Skerrit as junior PM ended his political career by beating him in 2005 and 2009, when uwp had more money and together. He also beat Mr Linton in 2014 and 2015, that’s more charismatic and more inspiring.
Trust me, your call for Pastor Randy is empty and devisive since Pastor Randy is a big part of the reason why UWP is in the mess they are in today. in fact as a very strong supporter of UWP, although I am very upset with the uninspiring style of Dr Fontaine, I can tell you if the above pastor becomes the leader the party will lose a lot of support just as his radio programs have lost a lot of listeners. These guys are just busy to run their big mouth with nothing to as substance. if the pastor who is quite the opposite of Thompson you he didn’t win in…

In recent times all these incumbent regimes are having snap elections. They all know that strong, economic headwinds are gathering on the horizon. Whispers have it that Dominica’s is imminent.

Most of the opposition parties are weak, ‘broke’ and disorganised. They are handing victory to the incumbents on a platter. The UWP with the uncharismatic, lethargic, uninspiring Thomson Fontaine as leader, DLP can be assured of a next term even though the party is comprised of the WORST people in Dominica, led by Trump-like, rambling, detached megalomaniac.

The UWP needs a Pastor Rodney, someone who is articulate, knowledgeable, courageous, visionary, a man with a magnetic personality.

      @Ibo
Dead on target.Dr Fontaine is most likely a very good economist, but he is politically in no man’s land. There is absolutely nothing one can feel, hear or sense which indicates that the UWP will do well at the polls (whenever election is held). Many constituencies still do not even have care takers, while Skerrit and his team are regularly meeting in hidden areas with the youths of all 21 constituencies. To top it all, those so called big men in the party (UWP), are publicly exchanging punches. Them guys have made politics too dam hard!! You don’t only need money to win an election. You need to connect with the people, and this present UWP is almost totally alien to this fact. You need a blend of young candidates to compliment the seasoned ones, and you need to attract the youths to the party. Who gives this party advice?
Dominica is so small, in one month you can visit all 21 constituencies, instead they visit a radio station??? Really? I dont even listen to talk shows…

MEME – what I respect about you is that you are not afraid to articulate the inconvenient TRUTH.

Dr. Thomson Fontaine has some very impressive attributes but leadership is not one of them. He lacks organizational skills ( too laid back, procrastinates

        too much).

The UWP needs a vibrant youth wing to win over the younger voters. They should be active on the basketball courts, playing fields, street corners, hang out joints, parking lots, eh cetera.

There should also be a strong and active women branch. Women are the most reliable voters.

The caretakers for every constituency should have already been in place. They should have been canvassing. Visiting every home and encouraging their constituents to register if they have not already done so. Going on radio and telling people to go and register is not enough.

Let e state emphatical!y. I have no personal gripe with the good doctor. What I have a huge problem with is his lack of leadership initiatives. Sincerely!

Man you all are just dangerous opportunists both IBO and Meme. Here is a fact you all cannot change until December: Thompson Fontaine is our leader for now, regardless of all his weaknesses. So I really don’t see why this criticism when we need to be united. Are you guys working for Skerrit against us? Look, if those guys you all have been pushing to lead our party Pas Randy, Linton and Paris were intelligent, all they had to do was rally with the team and contest the next election and win their seats . Though we expect Dr Fontaine to win his seat but in the event he doesn’t win he can’t be opposition leader according to our constitution, which means if the Pastor, Linton and or Paris win any of them will become opposition leader, and come December they would stand a good chance of becoming the party leader during our delegates conference. We can archive the desired results without destroying our party man. But instead you guys are just there attacking our elected leader man
