PM Skerrit says latest partial travel ban will not affect ‘very good’ Dominica-U.S. relations

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit expressed that the recent decision by the United States(U.S) Government to include Dominica on its latest list of countries facing U.S partial travel restrictions will not negatively impact the overall smooth relationship between Dominica and the U.S under the current administration.

“We have had, I would say, more communication with the Trump administration than we had with the Biden administration,  [regarding] the extent of the contacts and engagement on a regular basis on a number of issues that we’re working on,” he said during a live interview on State-Owned Radio DBS on Wednesday.

According to Skerrit, Dominica has seen an increase in spending by the United States on the country’s national security, providing additional support.

“So even when U.S. Aid came to an end,  we continued to get support fully,” he noted.

Furthermore, he added that Dominica has received important infrastructural, training, and material support from the United States Government.

“So the relationship in my mind between Dominica and the current Trump administration has been very good,” Skerrit stated.

He went on to state that access to the U.S. State Department, the Treasury and the U.S Embassy have been very effective at all levels.

“And so I don’t see it as affecting the relationship in any way,” he emphasized.

I really don’t understand why such a simple point is not being understood.

Why did the UK suspend visa-free entry only for Dominica, while the other Caribbean islands still enjoy visa-free access?
Why is the US taking action only against Dominica?

Why is no one paying attention to the fact that Dominica is the only Caribbean country that gives passports to Iranians?

Tell your own president clearly: the issue is purely Iran.

Right now, because of the EU’s pressure on the Caribbean, not a single person from Iran is applying for your passport anymore, so you are gaining no money at all from this.

Close this business and remove Iran from your list of eligible countries for citizenship.
    Then everything will be fixed.

Otherwise, it won’t be just Dominica — all Caribbean islands, not just Dominica, will eventually be removed from the EU visa-free list.

Is this really that complicated to understand?

There is a lot of fake news in this piece of trash that you just posted. Two of them are: ” … the US taking action only against Dominica?” and ” … that Dominica is the only Caribbean country that gives passports to Iranians?

We all know mischievous lies when we see them. You should be ashamed of yourself!

I think Dominicans must recognize that this is a partial travel ban to the US and will be lifted as soon as Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit finalizes his negotiations with US President Donald Trump and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Therefore, I urge Dominicans to be patient and let our Prime Minister ensure that Dominica is removed from the US Travel Ban…

I have every confidence in Dominica’s Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit ability to successfully navigate this challenge with the US by helping to remove Dominica from the travel ban to the US.

Do you have confidence in Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit negotiating skills to help remove Dominica from the travel ban to the US? YES or NO.

    I vote YES

What negotiating skills have to do with that. Skerrit is a bloody, arrogant fool, who keeps insulting the intelligence of the Dominican people most of whom don’t have a brain to think rationally about these matters. Anyone can see that this bann has nothing to do simply with US immigration reform. The reason is much deeper: This is a geopolitical undercurrent running through this that most Dominicans seem oblivious about. Dominica has in recent years under Skerrit aligned itself with Uncle Sam’s arch socialist enemies: China, Cuba, Venezuela, Russia etc. They vote with them against the US consistently at the UN. Dominica is no longer a nonaligned nation. They have taken sides in a messy geopolitical struggle against America. What is happening now is repayment for Skerrit arrogance and stupidity. And for him to downplay the situation and say relations with America is “very good” is a lie. Americans have brains to think for themselves. Kudos to President Trump! Skerrit change course now!

” U.S partial travel restrictions will not negatively impact the overall smooth relationship between Dominica and the U.S under the current administration.”

Roosevelt, you are either mad, delusional or simply out of touch with reality, you can down play the disaster you caused, by failing to properly vet ( investigate) those people you been selling citizenship. Just about every foreigner holding a Dominica passport has never been to Dominica. That is a dangerous game; you Roosevelt don’t even know how many undesirables are living as citizens of Dominica. Here is an example: One born on the island of St. Kitts, holder of a Dominica diplomatic passport which states his place of birth is Dominica; how could you allow that?

Keep fooling yourself, believe you own stupid thoughts, meanwhile; Dominicans are unable to obtain travel visas be it a student academic, vocational, business , even a student exchange visas, all because of your stupid blunder! You making a fool of yourself.

Why is Skerrit insulting the intelligence of the Dominica people? I have no idea. But I know this: The “very-good” relation with the US he hints at is wishful thinking. Otherwise, the US would not ban Dominicans from entering the US. If relations are very good and Trump regards Dominica as a friend, then the travel-to-the-US gate would be wide open. On the contrary, the ban seems to say Dominica is a threat, and not to be trusted, along with their socialist side-kicks: China, Russia, Venezuela, Cuba etc. There is nothing wrong in having relations with Cuba, Venezuela etc. But one must remember: these are Uncle Sam’s arch enemies. And to be consistently aligned with them at the UN against the US, you can be sure of one thing: Uncle Sam is watching! I am in no way suggesting the immigration saga is all about that. But it’s naive for Skerrit to push the illusion that Dominica has “very good” relation with the US. America knows better!

Chichi is a cunning, evil person who cares only about himself and some cabalists. As long as he can stay in office and continue sucking Ma Dominique taytay he will not see the pain he has imposed on our people. How can the relationship be very good while we cant get visas? Why would our people awaiting calls for green-cards be now in limbo? Soon Western Union and Moneygram will be no more if we are not careful.

He is a diplomat, his wife has a visa and also a diplomat, his children are US citizens, he is an alleged billionaire, so really, he does not give a darn about others. Dcans, PLEASEEEEEE get rid of this evil riding you to the grave. Skerrit MUST GO without delay! Bondieu, chu-nou- kar-paytay en Ma Dominique. Help us lord!

There is knowing and understanding, did you consider such things before you just rant with such opinion with your superficial silliness to satisfy your partisan political beliefs or what you believe and assume regarding what you think about the US greatly ignoring facts. Is the PM insulting the intelligence of the Dominican people, lol what authority you have to assume such things on the behalf of Dominicans Is the PM the agitator of the issue at hand or someone responding eloquently and rational to an issue between 2 Countries safeguarding their interest. The illusion you conceive regarding the PM response, suggesting “America knows better” is somewhat irrational.

My friend, when it comes to Dominica, I have no political beliefs. I don’t even Iive in Dominica. My point in case you can’t read that well is Skerrit’s claim: “we have ‘very good’ relations with the US.” This is false and misleading. He may believe he has “very good” relations with America, but America certainly does not have “very good” relations with Dominica. And that is a fact given the recent ban. My opinion was to suggest a possible reason: Skerrit long track record of aligning with America’s enemies. While this may or may not be the case, this is something the Dominican government should be aware of moving forward. Again to clarify: I have no political party affiliation. Just a simple Dominican concerned about the direction of the country. That’s all.

The United States warned Dominica in June 2025 about making residency for its CBI program as soon as possible, but the government of Dominica did zero actions only talks.
St Kitts made residency for new applicants and now it is out of the ban list.
Now the situation is more difficult and being on ban list gives a very bad reputation for the investment program. Unfortunately Other countries will ban Dominica passport in the future.

Dominica passed a law in October 2025 to establish a regulatory body for the CBI. That law includes the residency requirement. It is the same law that was also adopted by St. Kitts, St. Lucia, etc.

Stop the disinformation. Inform yourself if you know nothing, or well, you can remain mute.

I have read a report on IMI daily that US wanted dominica to make residency for its CBI program in June 2025 , but Mr Skerrit said there is no need to panic . You can check the report at IMI daily website.
St Kitts and Nevis at that time knew what US wanted and made fast decision to bring residency for its CBI program.
Now Dominica is on the ban list and St Kitts is out .
Because of Mr Skerrit poor decisions and not making any actions at the time , all countries will ban Dominica passport , this is a great harm for people who invested in Dominica and it brings a bad reputation for its CBI program worldwide.
