On Tuesday, October 14, Prime Minister Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit is scheduled to introduce a motion in Parliament seeking approval to bestow the Dominica Award of Honour (D.A.H.), the nation’s highest accolade, upon the late Prime Ministers Roosevelt “Rosie” Douglas and Pierre Charles.

The motion pays tribute to the remarkable national service and leadership demonstrated by both former leaders, whose efforts significantly contributed to the country’s development and inspired citizens through their commitment to social justice, education, and community progress, as outlined in a media release from the Office of the Prime Minister.

“Rosie Douglas and Pierre Charles led Dominica with vision and courage,” Prime Minister Skerrit remarked prior to the parliamentary session.“This is a moment for the nation to honour two leaders who gave their all to our people. Their example continues to inspire our spirit of resilience and our collective pursuit of a stronger, more united Dominica.”

OPM reported that the awards will be awarded posthumously during the formal commemoration of the country’s 47th independence anniversary, scheduled for November 3.

Roosevelt “Rosie” Douglas became Prime Minister in February 2000, serving until his sudden death on October 1 of the same year. Following his passing, Pierre Charles assumed the role of Prime Minister on October 3, 2000, and remained in office until his death on January 6, 2004.

“The Government of Dominica invites all citizens to join in honouring their legacy of service, unity and nation-building,” said the release.

    Everything Roosevelt does is meticulously calculated to gain political currency. Imagine! It took one quarter of a century to finally honour two very deserving sons of the soil for leading this country with distinction.

    No one should misconstrue this action as magnanimous. Just another one of Roosevelt’s ruse to ingratiate himself with the citizens. DISINGENUOUS!!

    I think both men are indeed deserving of the honor. Both were remarkable individuals.

    What are their achievements? apart from being P.M.
    Just like Obama, he received the Nobel Prize, 6-8 months after becoming president.Nothing to show but just talk.

    Its taken a long time but better late than never. I guess naming the new airport Douglas charles is out of the equation now.A statue I n Portsmouth and Grandbay would be good. This just looks like the new airport will be called after the current PM and he doesn’t want to look bad so do something now .Maybe I’m wrong. Douglas and Charles were selfless people, it was never about them but about the people.

      Get used to the name: “Roosevelt-Skerrit International Airport (RSIA).”

        @Putin

        RSIA? WTF!

        Sounds like a Russian spy agency to me.

        And why did you hyphenate your god’s name? You do know they only hyphenated “Douglas-Charles” because they are two individuals…right?
