Edward Oliver LeBlanc is celebrated not only as Dominica’s last Chief Minister and first Premier but also as a poet whose words touched the very soul of the island. To honor his enduring legacy, a special collaboration has been set up between Jungle Bay Resort, MAC Services Inc., the LeBlanc family, and the Alwin Bully Foundation Inc. A joint press release shared that they will come together to host a unique event: a Poetry and Jazz Cocktail.
This event will showcase LeBlanc’s latest published collection of poems, titled “Fragments of the Dawn,” giving attendees a rare chance to experience the depth of his creative spirit firsthand.
The public is being asked to mark their calendars for Saturday, May 2, 2026, when the Poetry and Jazz Cocktail kicks off at Jungle Bay Resort at 6 PM. As part of the lead-up to Jazz Creole 2026, adding what organizers say will be a touch of cultural richness to the festival’s festivities.
Students from secondary schools around Roseau, along with performers from the recent theatrical production “STREAK”, will take part in a poetry reading session. Their performances will be complemented by live jazz tunes from some of Dominica’s top musicians, blending the worlds of literature and music.
The goal of this event is to shine a spotlight on E.O. LeBlanc’s significant contributions to Dominica’s growth, especially in the arts. By highlighting his poetry and encouraging involvement in the performing arts, the organizers hope to spark renewed enthusiasm and community engagement.
LeBlanc is described in terms of his humility, integrity, and unwavering commitment to the people of Dominica. His leadership in politics was deeply intertwined with his poetic side, which he kept private during his lifetime. His verses captured the heartbeat of the island’s farmers, fishermen, and workers—reflecting the very rhythms and sentiments that shaped his approach to governance.
“His words continue to inspire, carrying forward a legacy of dignity, service, and enduring love for Dominica”, said the release.
Guests are encouraged to dress in business casual with national colors. The evening will feature food, drinks, and live jazz performances.
