Pointe Michel man detained then released in investigation of customs officer’s death

Deceased Garneth Jolly

As a police investigation continues into the shooting death of former customs officer Garneth Jolly, a young man from Pointe Mitchel who was arrested on suspicion by the Major Crime Unit of the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force (CDPF), has been released pending further inquiry into the matter.

Earlier reports from the police indicated that Jolly was shot at his residence at Everton Estate in Loubiere on January 28, 2025, a little past noon.

Jolly’s death is recorded as the second homicide for the year.

DNO is following that story and will provide more details in a later publication.

One love, here is a scene.A motor cycle is travelling west on Charles ave.A pickup truck is travelling north to south or south to north along Goodwill road. The motor cycle does not stop and hits the pickup truck on Goodwill road. The motor cycle rider dies.Would you prefere a charge of causing death by dangerous driving against the pickup driver and arrest him?In the Malik case evidence show he was not at fault, and therefore he could not be charged. This has happened in numerous traffic accidents in Dominica. All you UWP too damn bias be cause is Skerrit son,and all you hate Skerrit, all you want to crucify the son.

The injustice in Dominica today is very frightening to me especially as a country that claims to be Bible believing.
As a servant of God I believe I need to warn Dominicans because everything I see reminds me of a passage in Judges 21, where leadership and justice had failed the people and Judges 21:25 says this: In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.
Think of everyone doing what seems right in his sight because leadership failed, judiciary failed etc. That was from the KJV, so let me read it from a more modern translation: In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did whatever he wanted- HCSB.
People I feel that’s exactly where Dominica is today under this current corrupt administration, that tries its best to set criminals free while they will do whatever it takes to punish good people that calls out their evil. It’s not cool for people to do whatever they want or what seems right in their sight. Pm I warning all…

Da has become an arrest and let go country, based on political ideology , that I don’t even know what to believe because of selective justice
In recent times DNO reported that Malik Skerrit, was involved in a fatal accident and it was confirmed by his father PM Roosevelt Skerrit. Hours later we understood the man fled the country, with help of alleged authorities without even a court hearing. Right now people are wondering if it was a real accident or something else.
We heard of the US CBI dealer & friend that allegedly brutally murdered two Canadians here. We now hearing the same big boys are trying to make us believe that their actions were legal and should be free.
We heard of a calypsonian whose car was shot 9 times. Police said they arrested the suspect and now he was released with no charge
The murder of Mr Jolly’s in broad daylight and someone was arrested. Today, released with no charge. But 8 years they trying to jail 3 opposition members for standing against wrong and

I truly hope that the perpetrator of this fatal shooting is found, charged, tried, convicted and imprisonment for life.

Having said that, I don’t have any confidence in the CDPF to get a conviction. Even though this heinous crime was committed in broad daylight, the police either bungle the investigation, fail to collect and preserve crucial evidence or allow the defence lawyers to run circles around them when being questioned in the court.

Here we go. The police had to release the main suspect because of lack of evidence. The present crop of officers are incompetent at investigative work. They are brilliant at the harassment, intimidation and brutalization of peaceful and law abiding citizens. To prove my point, today, they have Dr. Thomson Fontaine, Mr. Lennox Linton in the court on spurious charges after eight (8) years.

Let me tell DNO the man was DETAINED he was not ARRESTED.One must be charged with an offence before he is arrested..When a man is arrested he MUST be told the offence he has committed for which he is being arrested. An arrested person must be bailed, either with a surety or on his own.Bail before a Judge,Magistrate or station bail in cases of small charges.Police cannot ARREST the man from Pointe Michel if he is not charged.

Not sure what law school you went to, but your understanding of “arrest” is totally flawed.
