Police investigate death of Portsmouth man

Brent Bique

Police are investigating the death of a Portsmouth man who was found dead in that community on Wednesday, January 8, 2020.

It is unclear what killed Brent Bique, but speculation is high that he could have died from a blow that he received to the head during an altercation with another individual on Tuesday 7th January 2020.

Dominica News Online (DNO) understands that Bique was well known for washing buses in the community.

No arrest has been made.

DNO will follow this story and provide further information as soon as it is made available.

The video below shows Bique after he was struck on the head.

The island is guilty as sin. Every living thing must die. A man has been murdered, the murderer still at large to kill another. Some relative is shieling the murderer, when he is caught, the court takes two to three years before he is sentenced. Doing nothing is not an answer

Sadly we have lost our humanity and souls in this country. If you are deemed less fortunate every dog, pig, donkey and cat day-karlaying you because they are “connected”. It pains my heart to see how we as citizens treat each other. Yes we behave like hayenas! Oh jah ! Why, why, why? where is our compassion in these troubling times. Just watching the video brought tears to my eyes. The young man was crying out for help among his people and we were oblivious to the fact. That’s why there will always be vigilante justice where legal proceeding fail.

May god strengthen his family and friends in such sad and painful times and may he find eternal rest with the ancestors. :( :( :( :(

That young man was murdered… Not a case of man slaughter, it was just time before he stopped breathing… All because some people think they can take advantage of others because they are vulnerable.

The Police knows, the media knows and all the people on Borough’s Square knows… Evil is taking over this land and we know the roots of it.

He his soul rest in peace and may his family find comfort in this time of challenge.

I don’t understand. That no one immediately helped this man, and brought him to the hospital. So sad!

Are we our brothers’ and sisters’ keeper? Such disregard for someone’s life is very disheartening and shaming. And in my little town of Possie? What have we become? a bunch of bystanders? Wake-up by brothers and sisters. Wake-up before before it is too late to wake-up. My sincere condolences to the family and friends of this young man.

Ahh poor man. How can a not her human being treat another like that. People don’t realise that the head is delicate magreysah. The person who hit him should be jailed. He is resting with the Lord .

Why they didn’t take the man to the hospital? it’s obvious he suffered a concussion and died from that!!!! I find in Dominica we take too many things for granted, his life could have been saved!

      January 9, 2020

Don’t know about concussion Joe but clearly a heamorage. That poor man should have been taken to A&E, if there is such a facility in Portsmouth. I wonder what they do if there is an emergency with a guest at Kempinski. Boy, la vie waide in Dominica, specially when you are a nobody.

He refused to be taken to the hospital. Should they have called the police to forcefully take him? I am asking.

        • Toto
          January 9, 2020

Yes man, they should have taken him even if he did not realise himself how serious this was. Should you let someone die because he says don’t treat him then. You are not serious. Now we probably have a case of manslaughter bad for the victim and whoever hurt him.

That a stupid question. Yes they should call the police report he had been physically assulted and everyone knows he is not mentally stable so get a nurse and psychiatry personal come get him on an ambulance or something take him for checkup. That is what they are trained for. We will find every stupid excuse in book. This is an example of the lack of professionalism in the place. A guy threatened, not directly, an official he was arrested. He is a citizen and has protection under law. Police cannot come and use force. We are in 2020 and Dominicans behave like they still close to evolutionary ancestry.

Joe Linton, those are my exact thoughts. No one saw it fit to take this gravely wounded gentleman to the hospital? We have become a community that lacks empathy and pregnant with hostility. Insanity is the order of the day. Dominicans have become numb to wickedness and unsympathetic to suffering. Come down Father come down.

What so ever you do to the least of my brothers that you do unto me. Christianity in Dominica is about pastors preaching loud and people going church signing and shouting, getting fooled by popular gospel artist who get their ignorant emotions up. Then they go back home molest the young kids, plunder the country, display their selfish greed like a badge of honour and treat our mentally challenged individuals like a spectacle and sub human species. The guy who hit him should have already been charged for assult and charges upgraded to manslaughter if autopsy find injury caused death. Seems we can beat people as long as they do not die. I suggest parliament pass law increasing the penalty for anyone who physically abuse the less fortunate in our country. Mandatory 8 years prison to 20 years. Where are our so called christians who should be crying out. You folks make me want to puke.

I’m with you Shaka. Most of the Caribbean countries were built on Christian teachings. Many of the holidays on our calendar are because of Christianity. Look at the plenitude of churches on Dominica yet so much evil. Religion is the opiate of the people. There are more sinners and wicked people inside the church than outside. Why? Most people today only take their clothes to church. They are spiritually dead. Lastly, the country takes the tone of its leader. If the leader is corrupt, deceitful and uncouth, the country ( inhabitants) becomes that way. A good leader is humble, honest, fair, inclusive, astute, articulate, empathetic and trustworthy. Do we have such a leader at present? The country has lost its moral compass. Thus the reasons for all these murders, robbing and this intolerance and callousness. Tie some time out and ponder on it.

      • Tell it like it is
        January 9, 2020

You people sit in Dominica and think it`s the whole world. You obviously don`t read, otherwise you would have realised that this is a worldwide trend and not isolated to Dominica alone. So Ibo France, are you saying that all the leaders all over the world are like the description you gave above? People just run their mouths with no basis or facts. And to make bad matters worse, you say things to suit your own bias.

        • Toto
          January 10, 2020

So because it happening elsewhere too it is ok then? Man, that is uneducated children behaviour and criminal thinking. Because somebody do something bad and they did not catch him is ok for you to do it too? Well, you all follow your leader but count me out.

Thank you Toto for castigating that moron. We should make Dominica the best place to work and live on earth. We MUST never compare ourselves with the worst practices happening around the globe. If bad things happen in the USA, should it be acceptable in Dominica? What idiotic thinking is that? It is misguided, unlettered persons like ‘Tell it like it is’ who contribute to the dumbing down (decadence) of the country.

“Religion is the opiate of the people”.

Ibo France yes, you are right: “Most of the Caribbean countries were built on religion. But I say “not Christian teachings”!

It is a false notion worldwide, that Christianity is a “religion” especially that those who claim to be Christians are ignorant of that truth.

A Christian must know that the ground of his or her faith is Love, that person must know that he or she is in a relationship with Christ Jesus–His Law is Love and His Gospel is peace–it is about Life, not the works of religion.

Religious people form their groups of “social clubs” calling it “church” with those “loud-preaching pastors”, but there is no church without the presence of “God’s Holy Spirit” in and among the people.

The man in the video was not surrounded by Christians, more so for the one who stroke him in the head

God is about Love in Spirit and Truth–that is Christianity; not the rules & laws of man–that is religion.

Liz, you are always on the wrong side of everything. You obviously think that verbosity makes you smart. It’s better to close your mouth and make people believe you are smart than to open it and dispel all doubts. Christianity is a religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. As per usual, you don’t know much, you just babble.

      January 9, 2020

Dominica does not have Christians. Dominica is not a god fearing country. The evidence is loud and clear.

From what I’ve seen of that slave plantation mentality island, young men are going down to hell !! This young man looks like both a drunk and dope ! Anyway, the criminal drug dealers has a price to pay ! It’s sad that the island has no proper governance and police functioning to deal with such evil ! From what I’ve seen, the bad governance of the island is no better than criminal drug dealers!!!

    • Galileo
      January 9, 2020

He not necessarily have been drunk and I am not saying he was not. However, his delirious reaction could is a possible symptom of a concussion as severe as the one he suffered. What is disheartening is the number of people who stood around seemingly enjoying the moment, making jokes about the wound and not rushing him to the hospital. Monkeys with guns. Even in the worst of situations the first thing is to record for sharing on social media. The recently elected legislature has work to do.

      January 11, 2020

Boss man STFO. He was neither a drunk nor a dope. He suffered from some form of mental challenge but definitely NOT a drunkard nor a drug addict.

With that said… if you believe that the Government and or the Police is …. go and tell them that… They’re suppose to be there to help.

At the same time tell the Government and the Police how you think the should handle criminal activities including illegal drug activities on the island
