The Traffic Department of the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force (CDPF) has issued a stern warning to all persons conducting mechanical works on the public roads- (roadside mechanics).
According to a message from the police through its Facebook Page, the roadways must remain clear at all times to ensure the free flow of traffic.
“Don’t wait until it’s too late — an ambulance or fire truck may need urgent access,” the message said. “We have spoken long enough. Action is now being taken.”
The message continued, “Failure to comply will result in charges or a traffic ticket. Do the right thing [and] keep our roads clear.”
Next, the roadside vendors who clutter the sidewalk and force pedestrians to walk on the street in harm’s way. Next also, the vendors who park on the roadside with an extended tent or shelter to vend thus depriving others of the space to park and creating a hazard for pedestrians. Go rent space in a building!
Well done Commissioner Corbette. Clear the roadways and the country by extension of those derelict vehicles. Matter of fact have them towed and send the nuisances the bill. I hope they dont come by PHQ and say is my-parl-rep that tell me its ok. CLEAN THEM OUT!!
I agree with the police 100%.The next thing is they should charge people putting all kinds bs on the road and say they holding space. Some use the PUBLIC road for reserve parking while people who pay vehicle licence have to scrunt for parking, that too is bs.
The main job of the police is to fight crime and protect the citizens. Definitely not to protect criminals and do the job of politicians. They really don’t have to go far to go after criminals
I don’t mind the police of the Corruptweatlth of Dominica to issue strong warnings to roadside mechanics you know . But my problem with the police is they’re too much after those that trying to eat a bread and not doing anything about those that taking bread from the people.
if Jesus were present on earth he probably would respond to this article like this: “But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former.”
The police should go after those corrupt, thieves, money launderers and drug dealers that always have enough money to bribe people, sponsor sewo that often take the lives of our young people and stop protecting those evil people that have destroyed our country with their Corruptweatlth.
Absolutely, 100% agreed with this directive. Long overdue! These roadside mechanics not only disrupt the free flow of traffic but make the area unsightly, and the smell of oils, fuel and chemicals is unhealthy and suffocating.
The government should designate specific areas or zones around the island for mechanic shops. They (mechanics) should not be uprooted without a physical place to operate.
As we are there let us add another improvement to this as well. The proper disposal of the old oils, transmission fluids and other smelling fluids should not be disposed at will anywhere around their repair facility. They should implement a program to dispose of these waste products responsibly.
It’s about time the police start to enforce laws. Dominica is becoming so lawless, and that’s a shame because it would be one of the nicest Caribbean islands.
We do need to remove old vehicles and mechanics along roadsides. There should be private units built that these mechanics can work in at affordable rents.
More importantly at this point in time, the police need to also monitor traffic violations. Stop speeding motorists, test for drink driving. I saw a vehicle overtake 5 other vehicles while approaching a bend. These amateur, showoff morons who must have bought their licence need to be reigned in and taught how to drive properly, including when to dip their bright beam lights that blind everyone. And yes, my comment is relevant because it’s about police enforcement. For the morons I’m referring to, get ready to press the ‘dislike’ button. You know who you are!!
Failure to comply will result in charges or a traffic ticket. Do the right thing [and] keep our roads clear.”
I hope the police does the right thing too, there are many, practically every village has an old vehicle parked on the road, and yet they haven’t been removed by the traffic department…
The one that services trucks at the foot of Castle Comfort back road has been there for years and the police never do anything about it.
So you can set up a mechanics shop on the roadside and the worst thing that can happen to you is that you get a ticket when the police can be bothered? #notarealcountry
I know a police that does mechanic on the side. He have 3 vehicles parked in the road . One with no engine. One he using to stope parts in and the other on missing one of the front axles
