Positive update from Ministry of Health: Decline in flu cases and gastroenteritis

The Ministry of Health, Wellness and Social Services has shared encouraging news with the public regarding the health trends on the island. In a recent audio statement, National Epidemiologist Dr Shalauddin Ahmed, announced a noticeable decrease in reported cases of gastroenteritis and flu, a development that reflects the painstaking efforts of healthcare professionals, public health initiatives, and the conscientious behavior of citizens adhering to health guidelines.

The statement cautioned the public that while the current situation is promising, vigilance is still paramount.

Citizens were reminded of the importance of maintaining rigorous hygiene practices. Frequent handwashing with soap and water, proper food handling and storage, staying hydrated, and adhering to a healthy diet were underscored as essential habits to continue. Additionally, the Ministry urged everyone to cover coughs and sneezes to minimize the risk of spreading infections and to seek medical attention promptly if severe symptoms arise.

Looking ahead, the Ministry will provide a more comprehensive update during a scheduled press conference on Friday, April 4.
