Coordinator for the 2024 Miss Teen Dominica pageant, Raymond Lawrence has acknowledged that the pageant provides a wonderful opportunity for young people on island to display their talent and skills. He was delivering remarks during a Carnival press conference this week. The pageant is scheduled to take place on Sunday, February 4, at Windsor Park Sports Stadium forecourt from 5:00pm.
The contestants are as follows: Nyanna Stevens representing the North East Comprehensive School, Geishana Gregoire representing the Pierre Charles Secondary School, Shernia Esprit representing the Castle Bruce Secondary School, Lizanne Cuffy representing the Convent High School, Reina Joseph representing the Portsmouth Secondary School and Sherkhia Andrew representing the Dominica Grammar School.
“The teen pageant is a wonderful opportunity for the young people of Dominica to display and showcase their talents and skills, and use the knowledge gained in the training and preparation for the pageant as a learning experience and a stepping stone to achieve greater heights,” he said. “In fact, it’s good to see two former Miss Teens participate as contestants in the Miss Dominica Pageant.”
He continued, “This year is the 45th Annual Miss Teen Dominica Pageant. We thank God for this achievement and we thank our six contestants and also the six schools who have sent their representatives to be part of the event.”
According to Lawrence, the competition also helps the teens to develop their self-confidence and self-esteem, skills in public speaking, performing arts, modeling.
“So, events like the Miss Teen support the visual and performing arts in the schools and help to provide a broader and more holistic education for our students,” he stated.
The pageant will be hosted under the theme: “Inspiring Our Youth by Fostering Love, Peace, and Unity.”
“It is important that we try to nurture these values in our youth as we would like to discourage violence and hatred in our society and instead to build a culture of peace, love, and unity,” Lawrence said.
Tickets for the pageant cost $20 for children standing, sitting $50, and adults standing $30. Ticket outlets are Depex Color Lab in Roseau and Bullseye Pharmacy.
The reigning Miss Teen Dominica is Kenisha Antoine of the Castle Bruce Secondary School.
Ya, OK Raymond it’s time to go home old pal, it’s ok. Give the young people a chance at creativity. That’s it. Thanks again
Raymond Lawrence you look so much like Engozo Nyankson Elbadi the soon to be Village chief in Zacoza, Namibia. This hard times in Dominica has changed the image of all of you. In the next few years Dominica will look like the country name Sa Pa Dominique.
And why do you think that kinda way, is it because you are more likely to look like Lizibet or prince Charles keeper of British stolen gold and artifacts?
There is a long way to go in terms of promoting the visual and performing arts in the schools. When I try to offer my support towards this end, the Ministry of Education turn a deaf ear. As one headmistress told me: “My girls don’t have time for that kind of thing”. Perhaps that is because the creative arts encourage a different way of seeing, thinking and feeling.
Eight years ago, my initiative for a one-year pre-degree course in all aspects of the visual arts was sidestepped by the Division of Culture.
Mr. Burnett, thank you for your contributions and your proposed initiatives. I think down to the decorations the their floats needs a total overhaul and training. We “decorate” like we have no class or imagination. Its hang baloons of any color anywhere, throw a piece of satin or sheen colored fabric anyhow. and that supposed to be “nice”. Any
