Dr. Roxanne Graham-Victor, serving as the Regional Coordinator for the Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) and leading the recent revision of Grenada’s National Adaptation Plan (NAP) under the Ministry of Climate Resilience, Environment, and Renewable Energy, participated in the United Nations Second Climate Week held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, last week.
GWP-C stated shared in a press release that during the event, she facilitated two pivotal sessions:
– A discussion on Securing Financing for Climate Adaptation to Address Increasing Needs, held on September 1.
– A session titled Empowering Action: Knowledge and Skills for Adaptation and Financial Support, conducted on September 5.
Both discussions emphasized the importance of enhancing climate adaptation efforts through innovative financial solutions, knowledge exchange, and resilience strategies, with particular focus on regions most vulnerable to climate impacts.
In addition, she engaged in consultations concerning support programs aimed at implementing the NAP, emphasizing the significance of international networks such as NAP Global Network (NAP GN) and highlighting GWP-C’s contributions toward water-related adaptation initiatives across the Caribbean.
Graham-Victor expressed her pride in representing Grenada and the Caribbean on such a prominent global platform, noting, “As an islander, it was an honor to represent Grenada and the Caribbean on such a global stage, sharing our country’s progress and lessons learned. Water scarcity and climate resilience remain universal challenges, and our work in the Caribbean provides valuable lessons for the global community. Equally important was the opportunity to build bridges with international partners.”
Her participation in Climate Week Two (2) underscores the increasing influence of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in shaping international climate strategies. Through sharing Grenada’s experiences and success stories, she demonstrated how even the most vulnerable nations can contribute innovative solutions and motivate collective efforts.
The 2025 edition of Climate Week took place at the Addis International Convention Center in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from September 1 to September 6.
