Removal of derelict vehicles resumes in Goodwill and Fond Cole areas

The Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force (CDPF), in collaboration with the Solid Waste Management Corporation (DSWMC), has recommenced the removal of derelict vehicles in the Goodwill and Fond Cole areas.

According to a statement via the CDPF Facebook Page, this operation forms part of their  ongoing effort to maintain “cleaner, safer communities and to reduce the risks that abandoned vehicles pose—such as crime concealment, rodent infestation, and obstruction of public spaces.”

Police strongly urge owners of abandoned or unlicensed vehicles to remove them immediately.

“Let us continue working together to keep our communities clean, safe, and orderly,” the statement said. “Your cooperation is crucial.”

Those are eye sores. Should rid them of pollutants and dump them in the ocean for reef formation

Thank you! Kudos To the Police, Solid Waste and the entire teams who are helping citizens to take back our communities to the cleaner and decent spaces they used to be. Some people just invade a community and feel they can break the law and do what they want with impunity. These “Vehicle pirates” need to be fined and be charged for the removal of these derelict health hazards. If Dominicans are serious about becoming a real ‘Nature Island’, a special permanent National Community Environment Team, should be formed to monitor and deal with such issues..garbage etc. islandwide. They MUST HAVE a proper budget for resources, an efficient system and authority to act and people who DO their job.. Look at Singapore, an island similar size to Dominica. Absolutely Strict laws AND action on littering and the environment. Invite a Singapore Rep to Dominica. NO trips to Singapore. Learn what needs to be done.. Time to be truly serious about our environment. Tonneh!

Good job Commissioner Corbette. You have made mistakes but everyday you are proving that the job belongs to u. I am no fan of urs or the CDPF but I can see u are trying. Just pull the big nose out of Mel and Poopouyou behind and all will be well.

Absolutely necessary! These unsightly, abandoned, inoperable vehicles are health hazards. They become perfect homes for mosquitos, rats, termites, cockroaches and even hiding places for illegal weapons.

Roadside mechanics are infamous for creating such hazards in many communities. As I have suggested before no mechanic repair shops should be allowed to flourish in any regular community. Special zoning areas should be accorded to the mechanics to ply their trade.

Great job Mr Commissioner and Solid Waste. But please don’t forget the three everlasting Land Rover rotting hulks lining the side of the road at Les Point between Massacre and Mahaut. Talking about an eye sore extraordinaire?

This a GREAT initiative! Please focus on areas where there are ” roadside mechanics”.
