Revenue for first half of 2024-25 fiscal year exceeds that of previous, says PM

PM Skerrit speaking during a special interview on DBS Radio

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has asserted that with respect to the economy, Dominica’s revenue for the first six months of the financial year 2024-2025 has improved.

He made the announcement during a special interview on State-Owned Radio DBS on Wednesday.

“In respect to the economy our revenue for the first six months of the financial year for 2024-2025 is better than the same period of 2023-2024,” he revealed. “So our revenues are doing much better in this financial year so far than it did in the previous financial year, which is a sign that money is being spent in the economy.”

Skerrit continued, “We have seen an increase in the corporate tax in Dominica, this is why we are looking in 2025…at addressing the corporate tax and maybe reducing it from what it is at 25 percent now to lower, so that we can keep more money in the private sectors at hand and we hope that they can invest more so that we can increase the tax base of the country.”

Meanwhile, he revealed that the government is also looking at a further review of the minimum wage.

“In 2025 we are looking at the further review of the minimum wage so as to allow persons who are relying [on] the minimum wage payment schedule to be able to be given a better pay so that they would be in a better position to withstand the increase in the price of goods and services in Dominica,” he said.

The last adjustment to Dominica’s minimum wage occurred in September 2021.

In the 2024/25 Budget Address, the Government of Dominica announced the formation of a Public-Private Sector Committee aimed at addressing critical economic and social issues related to the minimum wage rate. This committee will be responsible for conducting thorough analyses and providing well-informed policy recommendations that align with the needs and expectations of both the workforce and employers.

congratulations 🎊 to the PM for getting all these projects up and running and I really mean that . when the PM looks himself in the mirror and asking why 7 million is owed to the health service,so much income tax is owed. Giving houses away because dominica 🇩🇲 don’t earn enough to build or buy.The average Dominican is not independent but dependant on the government. If he could change this he has done a great job. aI get the important after 20yrs as leader that can’t have been a priority to him .

This man have no shame in telling LIES, he is immune to it. He cares less whether we believe him or not, has no compassion and is disrespectful to us.
When are we going to take actions? its more of us and less of them.
We’re seeing mass demonstration all over the world for lesser GRIEVIANCES.
Let’s not make 2025 a year that we all regret.

    Peace and blessings

What exactly is the “lie,” Mahaut man? And, what information do you have to the contrary of what you claim to be a “lie?”

Well sah, time for action is now. What about organizing a few Mahaut ghetto boys, get with the Salisbury and Ah-foo-ah-wee boys along with the serious People’s boys in Newtown (Mun-seh-woo-Yeah) and have some serious conversations on where we go from there. No more radio trips or meetings that yield no fruitful results other than to set another preliminary date for the next meeting? The land of Mal, Peltier, Lagandy, Cozy, Jim, Rulah, Tee-Tee-Wee and Sorlo must now take the reins. Foo-foo, Elford Henry and Ass-In- All must be turning in their graves to see what has become of Mahaut.

Mahaut can be made a one way in and out if you mobilize a niceeeee friendly dou-vant-jou meeting between chemin Campbell and Lawie-Picartee. That way, the Mahaut people can all "peace-foo-lee" assemble and discuss the affairs of the state. I stand ready for the horn to blow from Morne Georgin.

This spontaneous Liar uses Voodoo mathematics to confuse the gullible that the country is doing well. It just like those holier than thou religious fanatics speaking in tongues to convince their fellow worshippers that they are endowed with the holy ghost.

Just a cursory glance at the living standard of the average Dominican one can easily tell that the math doesn’t math.

MEME if you were as smart as you want us to believe you would know a Dominican passport CANNOT be sold. Before Skerrit there were thousands of Dominicans renting houses, today there are more that 6,000 people benefitting financially from the housing revolution, that is they are no longer paying rent. Before Skerrit thousands who did not pay social security were not getting a single cent today more than 2,700 are receiving $300 monthly. Before Skerrit there was no NEP today there are more than 5,000 employed and being paid no less than $300 weekly. Before Skerrit under UWP the minimum wage was $4.50 today it is $8.00.Before there was no Clear harbor today about 1,000 employed. Before Skerrit the was no yes we care today there are over 300 employees.Today in Dominica there are over 42,000 registered vehicles and the people are no longer building one floor houses. The smallest tv in a sitting room is 65inches and everybody use cell phones. That is why Dominicans will always vote DLP.Better life.

The thing is, he doesnt do anything unless it benefits him and his friends. Keep them poor and they will continue to turn to you. He doesnt cure he will only treat. Technical people in the government services have recommended many decent ideas for revenue and to improve the business environment, but those things dont benefit him. They keep doing the absolute bare minimum to “save money” then call it state of the art and expect it to have big impact. nothing is working here. Look they going to destroy donkey beach soon to put a container port. People like the Canefield urban council should be lambassed for allowing Donkey beach area from the mainroad down to the beach to be in such a state. Canefield doesnt even have a playing field anymore. a major residential area. these days all we seeing in more and more bars. rum and weed alone that selling in Dominica. And fake hair for those woman to look like something.

This means absolutely nothing. what we need is to see vetted, audited statistics. on the year to year economy. the Statistics division should present annual reports and we can make our own conclusions and assessment. No one should believe anything coming from a compulsive liar. blank statements coming from skerrit is no different than hot air coming from a donkeys behind.
We need independent data from all sectors of our economy and that is it. If words are not verifiable then RS should stay quiet.

LOL…the revenues were always there. The problem is, there is ALLEGEDLY soooooooo much pilfering that it never showed up in places where it should have. Now the pressure is on, it seems a “little less” ALLEGED pilfering is taking place so the revenue is showing better. This cabal has to go…PERIOD!

Too many dominicans think and FEEL different. Dominicans wil refuse to stop this nonsense because they do not think the alternative will have as much money as Skerrit. They think all the money they getting under the table, all the roads that paving in mediocre fashion, all the new apartments that breaking already, all the good time is in Skerrit pocket it coming out. Skerrit was poor just like you and me. Thieves do what thieves do, they steal. But they will refuse to vote in anyone else for the dumbest reasons. therefore, Dominica HAS the leader it deserves. Until Dominicans wizen up and regrow some integrity and morals then we arent going anywhere. Compared to other nations around us, Dominica is behind the last place. it is a complete shame how our once thriving nation has fallen. Another thing to watch for is DOMLEC. I suspect as of late they are overcharging many of us and we just pay it thinking that is our charge.. Just remember is Skerrit and them that own DOMLEC now.

The laziest Prime Minister in CARICOM babbles like he has just entered office. How much of that improvement in revenue were from passport sales? Who interviewed the LIAR? Were the questions prepared in advance?
Remember people this inveterate and compulsive LIAR uses all sorts of trickery, and deception to fool the unsuspecting, then he comes to the public and vomits his lies like he is addressing a group of labourites.
