Rough seas force cancellation of ferry service

Inter-island ferry L’Express Des Îles has been forced to cancel its service to Guadeloupe, Dominica, Martinique, and St. Lucia due to rough seas.

The cancellations take effect today, February 13, to Monday, February 17.

Travelers have been asked to take note of the following:

-Thursday, February 13: cancellation of the crossing from Guadeloupe to Dominica, Martinique and Saint Lucia.
-Friday, February 14: cancellation of the crossing from Saint Lucia to Martinique, Dominica and Guadeloupe
-Saturday, February 15: cancellation of the crossing from Guadeloupe to Dominica, Martinique and Saint Lucia.
-Sunday, February 16: cancellation of the crossing from Saint Lucia to Martinique, Dominica and Guadeloupe

“We sincerely regret that the travel days and times of some passengers who have already booked and/or even started their journey during this period may be modified,” the ferry said in announcing the change in schedule. “Please check your emails or SMS regularly, as change or cancellation notifications have been sent… We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by these completely involuntary changes.”

The region has been buffeted by high winds and rough seas in the past few days which has been blamed on a high-pressure system.

A weather bulletin by the Dominica Meteorological Service (Met Office) issued today, February 13, said windy conditions and rough seas will continue.

“A high-pressure system will keep winds strong across the region in the coming days, bringing breezy to windy conditions,” it said. “Expect periods of cloudy skies with passing light to moderate scattered showers. Seas will be moderate to rough with waves reaching up to 12 feet along the northern, eastern, and southern coasts. The western coast may see waves near 7 feet. These conditions are expected to persist into the weekend.”

The Met Office also stated that a small craft advisory is in effect for Dominica “or rough seas and strong winds.”

“If you’re near the shoreline or on the water, please take necessary precautions to stay safe,” it warned.

Did you read the article? It said the entire service, from Guadeloupe all the way to St Lucia was cancelled due to rough seas. Why just single out Domininica. You’re being very dishonest here. Thank God some of us can still read so we don’t have to believe the crap you wrote.

Roseau needs a protected ferry port, not an exposed lay-by.

The port is not the problem. If it was, the ferries would run and just skip Dominica as the other ferry ports are protected.

The illiterate did not understand what he read, one more time.
Fool, this is about roughs seas, so the ferry does not want to put passengers lives in danger.
Illiterate, it’s not about Labour and UWP.
