RSS officers receive training in counter-terrorism tactics

Staff Officer (Exercises) at the Regional Security System, Lt. Col. Roberto Beltran, speaking to RSS military and police officers during the opening ceremony of the Counter Terrorism Tactical Response Course

Twenty-four tactical-level police military officers representing the eight Regional Security System (RSS) Member States, namely Antigua &Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana,  St Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, and St. Vincent & The Grenadines, will spend the next four weeks enhancing their skills in counter-terrorism tactics as they participate in the Regional Security System’s Counter Terrorism Tactical Response Course (CT-TAC).

The training is being hosted by the RSS’ Training Institute, located at the headquarters in Barbados, and funded by the 11th European Development Fund (EDF), the course will provide training in countering armed organised criminals, anti-government threats, and terrorism. The course is being taught by instructors from the Belize Defence Force’s Special Operations and Tactics Unit (SOTU).

Staff Officer (Exercises) at the RSS, Lt. Col. Roberto Beltran, pointed out that the field and classroom exercises within the course were designed to improve regional security systems to detect, prevent, fight, and manage any terrorist threats to the land or maritime domain.

“This course, like any of our other courses, aims to strengthen the skillsets of our officers and will demonstrate how they should use Standard Operating Procedures to achieve interoperability among RSS Member States and operationalise responses in the event of any terrorists or anti-government threats,” he explained.

The CT-TAC will be conducted in four phases: In-camp Training; Individual Skills Package; Live Firing Package and Field Training Exercises. Students will be trained and evaluated in the conduct of Special Operations; Conventional Platoon-Level Operations; Map Reading; Convoy Protection; Small Boat Operations, Close Quarter Combat and
Unarmed Combat, among other tactical response areas.

Lt. Col. Beltran noted that these areas of training would also prepare officers for the upcoming Unity Exercise (UNEX), which will be held in St. Lucia from April 3 to 13.

“The skills that our officers will gain during this four-week programme will be on display during UNEX 2024. During that activity, there will be a number of simulations across St. Lucia and we need to be sure that participants are as prepared as possible for any eventuality which may present itself. UNEX will however offer another opportunity to tidy up any shortfalls and further enhance the officers’ capabilities,” the RSS official stated.

UNEX 2024 is also a joint initiative with the RSS and the 11th EDF, in collaboration with the government of St. Lucia.

Your training? Boy come better than that.In 1983 early in the morning, the Clown and others left their wives and children and flew on a C130 HERCULES from the DC Airport in Dominica to Point Saline international airport in Grenada. There the Clown worked with the 82nd,108th,65th and a demolition expert master sgt.from Jamaica,in the name of democracy and freedom. In 1984 the Clown returned from Grenada, and was trained by the 7th Special Forces 82nd Airborne from Fort Bragg North Carolina.Training include, night vision goggles,45 cal pistols, hand grenades,M16’s 5.56 cal, M60’s 7.62 cal and jungle survival. Some of us are familiar with the kick and sound of the AK 47’s 7.62 cal. in Dominica. So Mr .magway ca we do not want a civil war in Dominica, with trained friends shooting trained friends. If guys like Evans John,Gabriel St.Jean,Cyprien Defoe,Vincent Rolle.Kelvin Albert,Patrickson Albert,Green CR and the Clown were still policemen, the 12 year old would be found,or some people would pay…

Sad thing is those terrorists might very well be from within since they have the snippers and navy seals they can use against us , like those that killed the man from Warner by accusing him as the one responsible for the missing young 12 year old girl and terrorized the young man that was supposed to be the only person that could help us find the child and then they just killed him just like that

As long as the villagers, like those in Salisbury, are law-abiding and civilized like the rest of those on the island, all will be well. If not, they must be dealt with as per the rule of law. Take that in your pipe and smoke it!

Hot debate. What do you think? Thumb up 1 Thumb down 19
