Sagicor signs on once again for CBU media award sponsorship

Sagicor Financial Company Ltd. has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the contributions of Caribbean media professionals by continuing its sponsorship of the Caribbean Broadcasting Union’s (CBU) Caribbean Media Awards.

This partnership, according to a recent press release by Sagicor, has been in place since 2021, focusing on the categories of Financial Literacy and Health Education journalism. The Health Education journalism category honors works that enhance awareness and understanding of health issues on both national and regional levels, while the Financial Literacy award recognizes content that fosters financial understanding within the community.

The previous year saw numerous media organizations from across the Caribbean receiving accolades sponsored by Sagicor, including notable institutions such as the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation in Barbados, the RJRGLEANER Communications Group in Jamaica, the Trinidad Express, and Great Belize Productions in Belize.

Ingrid Card, who serves as Vice President of Communications and Brand Experience at Sagicor Financial Company Ltd., expressed pride in the ongoing support for the Caribbean Media Awards for the fifth consecutive year.

She emphasized the critical role of media in society, stating,”The work of the media is very important and as such deserves support and recognition. Financial literacy and health education are important, and the media has an integral
role to play in ensuring that the region’s populace is informed. We look forward to the
exceptional work that is presented each year and wish all entries the best.”

Anthony Greene, President of the CBU, recognizes the significance of the lasting collaboration with Sagicor Financial. He explained that having stakeholders like Sagicor engage with media organizations benefits not only the members of CBU but also society as a whole. “This support leverages multiple inputs to create a much larger benefit as we all seek together to tackle the development issues of the region.”

For over thirty years, the CBU has celebrated excellence in content produced by various media outlets—including print, digital, television, and radio—in the Caribbean regions that communicate in Dutch, English, French, and Spanish. The 36th CBU Media Awards Gala is set to take place in Barbados on August 20, 2025.
