Seven arrested in connection with string of burglaries

Seven persons have been arrested in relation to a series of burglaries which occurred between September 2019 and February 2020.

According to Superintendent in Charge of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Davidson Valerie, the burglaries happened in the Roseau area as well as Canefield and Morne Daniel.

“On Monday 3rd, February 2020, acting on information received, the CID conducted investigations which resulted in the arrest of seven suspects in relation to the report,” he said. “During the investigations, 6 television sets, 4 laptop computers, 8 cellular phones, 1 computer screen, 1 PlayStation game control, 1 Rolex watch, 2 gold chains, 1 pellet rifle, 1 pair of TN Sneakers, EC$1,100 in cash were recovered.”

Valerie said among the burglaries which were reported during that period, 25 of the cases were solved, “after the suspects admitted to entering the various premises.”

“Six of the suspects have already been charged with burglary and handling stolen goods in relation to some of the matters and have appeared before the magistrate’s court,” the police officer revealed.

He said they were remanded into custody.

“Other similar charges are expected to be brought against the suspects at a later date as investigations continue,” Valerie stated.

We would have to admit, not even hungry dog wants to eat raw cornflour, much less for hungry man with no work no future in site. Guess what? In need of want man gets really desperate.. resulting to all sorts of immorality to survive, stealing killing raping are just a few of the rampant trend that the country is promoting as the normal way of life in D/ca aka DOG LAND.

Why is it that after something happened waaaay after the crime is investigated we hearing about it, how are we to know what he real level of crime is in Dominica when the police will not inform us of crime ON THE DAY it is reported or committed????????

Any police department that does not inform the public of what is going on when it happens instead of waiting months for a “Break in the case” is more interested in praise than the general public knowing the truth. Is not about red or blue, CRIME IS RAMPANT AND WE MORE FOCUSED ON PARTY POLITICS AND SAVING FACE!!

I am curious as to why the perpetrators are not being identified by name. If they have gone before a Judge, then it would seem to me that the public should now have a right to know the identities of these people. Not naming criminals, only shields them, and encourages them to continue in their ill-advised behaviors.

Besides the obvious such as, checking doors and windows are adequately secure, I always tell people to make a note of ALL serial numbers found at the back of their small appliances like TV’s and laptops etc. It only takes a minute or two to do this. Now we have a case of at least 25 burglaries. Appliance stores in Dominica are limited so the odds of two or more people having the same TV for example are high. After the cases are dealt with in the court, a restitution order will be made to have the items returned to their rightful owner(s). Here lies the problem. What differentiates your (same brand) TV from mine? The serial number ONLY..! At the end of the day none of us what to have an intruder enter our homes period, but having the right item(s) returned to you is, at least, somewhat comforting.

Kudos to the police but I hope action will be so swift if and when it happens in the rural areas. We all deserve respect for our hard earned property.

  10. Stealing No More
    February 26, 2020

Imagine what a 20 year old child will do if for 20 yrs all they see their parents do is Stealing, murdering, raping, lying and committing all types of crime and the police, the churches, the lawyers, judges, pastors, evangelist, priests and just about everyone applauding them and helping them commit those acts? Do you think that 20 year old child will want to do anything different from what he saw his parents do successfully? Parents are to set good examples for their children, so to must our leaders lead by example, regardless of who they leading. We must never do what we don’t want our children or our followers to do. Let me close with this great passage from Ephesians 4:28 “Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to …”

All thief is thief, whether is stealing to survive or stealing to enrich oneself, so they could use proceed of crime to stay in power. I read some of the comments and it so sad to some of you hypocrites say all you praying for our young men but you all so Red that you see our leaders stealing, yet you behaving like STEALING is all godly and good, as long as it is done by those you like. Al jazeera just informed us of some people that were allegedly involved in some high level of theft, where they pocket 90% of the money and use 10% on country. In fact they called some by name like, Roosevelt, Nathan, that Lawrence lawyer, that Tony, and other government ministers. In interest of Dominica the police should have arrested those Al Jazeera called by name, as well as government ministers like Reggie, Blackmore, Ian, Roselyn Paul, Daniel, Darroux and others and ask them what they know about the allegations of Al Jazeera. Unless we deal with the root playing with leaves mean is just a joke

The police did not arrest so since u so bitter and know the truth with all your factual proof, then go arrest them. But on another note, some of your blue ministers people name call too so arrest them all.

Nonsense! Are you being sarcastic or what? Man has to find work and work hard in order to eat! There is work but these thieves are just plain lazy; the Haitians come here and find work.

Maybe the Haitians are willing to work hard to earn a living and not simply waiting for something to be given to them.

  14. February 26, 2020

Let’s hope they are found quickly and that justice will be served……lengthy jail terms with hard labour to act as a deterrent not only to them, but to other would-be thieves and robbers ! Let Dominica be known as the safest place in the Caribbean and its people the most caring, honest and loving !

      • Let The Light Shine in Us
        February 27, 2020

Me maybe u too. Do u have children? Are u training them rightly? Are u an example? So how the PM take over all u responsibility? When u cannot take blame for your own faults and everything is “Skerrit do it”, how do you expect the young ones to act. They do the wrong things and look to blame someone for their short comings like u people who hate others for no reason doing. Start be objective and think – u, me, we all have to be blamed because most of us do not want others to correct our children. Most of soutiwez. Most of us think ours are saints whilst we bash other children. What if we took our responsibility seriously – be an example at our home, schools and everywhere we go. Let our walk do the talk. Let the light of Christ shine within us. What when they come home with something we did not give them. We accept them. I know that I would send my children back with any pencil, pen or otherwise 2 give back to the teacher. Stop the Blame game look inside.

So UWP would prevent stealing. Burglary has been a crime in Dominica from time so come out there with your stupid political diatribe. Crime needs a unified national approach to solve them. This cheap political attacks will only worsen things.
